The AIDP Association Internationale de Droit Pénal is the oldest scientific association of specialists in penal law and numbers over 3,000 members, including university professors, lawyers, magistrates, researchers, students and criminal law practitioners. Every five years, the Association draws together AIDP members from around the world for its International Congress.
The 2019 International Congress - organized by the Italian National Group in collaboration with Luiss Guido Carli University - will focus on the relationship between criminal justice and corporate business. Due to the growing role of corporations in society, they have become central actors in domestic and international regulation, ranging from issues of corporate social responsibility to criminal liability for corruption and serious human rights violations. The Congress is a reflection of the work of the AIDP over the past five years on individual liability for business involvement in international crimes, food regulation and criminal justice, the interplay between administrative and criminal enforcement and the prosecution of corporations for violations of international law and related jurisdictional issues.
The numerous plenary and parallel sessions of the Congress will also focus on subjects of particular relevance to the international debate, including the fight against corruption, new technologies and economic criminal law, protection of the environment through criminal law, regulation and market control and ne bis in idem, corporations’ responsibilities to protect human rights, the elaboration of genuinely supranational business criminal law, and the harmonization of laws at international level to promote sustainable development.
The 2019 International Congress will open with the Keynote Speeches of John Vervaele President of International Association of Penal Law (AIDP) and Paola Severino Vice President Luiss and President of AIDP Gruppo Italiano.
