Obiettivi formativi

The course aims to teach the students what are the main problems in field of cultural heritage and how law can address them. The course will allow students to understand the foundations of cultural heritage law at international and national level.

Prerequisiti

No pre-requisite required.

Risultati di apprendimento attesi

• To increase the capacity of framing cultural heritage problems and issues; • To favour a multi-disciplinary approach; • To make better understand how cultural heritage and its institutions work and how they allow to highlight some of the most challenging contemporary legal problems; • To integrate traditional studies on cultural heritage law with new perspectives based on sociology, history, political science and other disciplines.

Contenuti Del Corso

The purpose of this course is to explain what are the main legal problems related to cultural heritage and how law try to address them. The course thus offers a case-analysis and problem-solving studies perspective in order to better understand the legal dimension of cultural heritage with its pros and cons. The course will address the following topics: 1) Introducing Cultural Heritage Law and Its Dilemmas. 2) Cultural Heritage Law in Context. 3) Globalizing Cultural Heritage Law: Three Patterns of Globalization. 4) Cultural Heritage Law and Beyond. Legal, historical, and cultural dimensions of the above issues will be considered.

Metodologie Didattiche

The course will be mainly based on cases analysis and discussions. Students will be asked to read materials in advance and to present and discuss cases during classes.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento

The students will be asked to make presentation during the course. There will also be a final interview.

Criteri per l’assegnazione dell’elaborato finale

The thesis assignment is based on a project proposal elaborated by the student.
