Daniele Gallo is Full Professor of EU Law in the Law Department of Luiss University (Rome) and Co-Director of the LL.M in European Law and Policies. At Luiss he held the EU Jean Monnet Chair in Understanding EU Law in Practice: EU Rights in Action before Courts (PRACT, 2020-2023) and was the Vice-Dean for International Law Programs at the Law Department, as well as the Deputy-Provost for the European Alliance ENGAGE.EU (2020-2024).

Aside from his engagements at Luiss, Professor Gallo is a Fellow at Universidade de Lisboa, where he has been a Visiting Professor in 2024. Additionally, he has been Professeur invité at Université des Antilles (Pointe-à-Pitre) in 2023 and 2024, Professeur invité at Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris) in 2017-2019, Recurring Adjunct Professor of EU Law at the School of Law of American University (Washington DC) in 2016-2019, Professor invitado at Universidad de La Habana in 2017, Professeur invité at Université Capitole I de Toulouse in 2015, Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Global Governance Studies (Leuven) in 2014, European Union Fulbright Schuman Scholar at Fordham Law School (New York) in 2010-2011, DAAD Fellow at the Max-Planck-Institut für ausländisches öffentliches Rech (Heidelberg) in 2009-2010, and Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute (Florence) in 2008-2009.

He is the author of four monographs, including Public Services and EU Competition Law, The Social Market Economy in Action (Abingdon, Routledge, 2021) and Direct Effect in EU Law (Oxford, Oxford University Press, forthcoming in January 2025, European Union Law Library Series). He is the author of over 120 contributions featured in various edited books and law journals, such as, amongst others, European Law Journal, European Law Open, European Journal of Legal Studies, European Public Law, Review of European Administrative Law, European Papers, European Business Law Review, European State Aid Law Quarterly, European Journal of Social Law, International Organizations Law Review, Fordham International Law Journal, and American University International Law Review.

He is the co-editor of two books: Same-Sex Couples before National, Supranational and International Jurisdictions (Heidelberg, Springer, 2014), and The Italian Influence on European Law: Judges and Advocates General (1952-2000) (Oxford, Hart, 2024). He is the co-editor of three journal special issues: Re-connecting Authority and Democratic Legitimacy in the EU (European Papers, 2020), Dual Preliminarity through National, EU and Comparative Case Law (The Italian Journal of Public Law, 2023), and The Preliminary Ruling Procedure, Today: Revisiting Article 267 TFEU’s Constitutional Backbone (European Journal of Legal Studies, 2023). As a legal advisor, Professor Gallo acted in 2013 for the Global Reporting Initiative, in 2015 for the Italian Ministry for Economic Development, in 2017 for the European Food Security Agency, in 2019 for the Region of Valle d’Aosta, and in 2021 for the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance. In 2024 he was heard by the Italian Parliament on matters related to EU law. Attorney-at-Law, admitted to practice before the highest courts in Italy, he regularly pleads before national jurisdictions, the General Court, the Court of Justice, and the European Commission. He has also pleaded before the European Court of Human Rights, the UNIDROIT Administrative Tribunal, and the ILO Administrative Tribunal.
