Program Highlights

The Double Degree program in International Relations and European Studies with Luiss University and the University of Salzburg provides a deep understanding of global diplomacy and European politics. Graduates gain a solid foundation for careers in diplomacy, international organizations, and European institutions.

Program Structure

  • the first year is carried out at Luiss (Rome, Italy);
  • the second year is carried out at Paris Lodron Universität Salzburg (Salzburg, Austria).
     

If compliant with both universities’ rules and conditions, participating students will receive two degrees, one from Paris Lodron Universität Salzburg and one from Luiss University.

Program Fees

During your mobility year at Salzburg, you will remain enrolled at Luiss and continue your payments to the university; therefore, outgoing students are exempt from paying tuition fees at Salzburg.

Who can apply

The call for applications for the mobility year 2026-2027 is open to students enrolled in the 1st year of the Luiss Master’s Degree in International Relations for the academic year 2025-2026.

Application Criteria (updated for the mobility year 2026-2027)

These are the criteria that you need in order to apply.

  1. Students are required to have passed all 1st semester exams by the deadline indicated in the Call for Applications (usually by mid-February)
  2. Weighted average grade equal to or above 27/30
  3. English level: at least a C1 level (European Framework of Reference), certified by one of the following institutions:
  • TOEFL iBT equal or above 91/120 IBT;
  • IELTS min. 7.0;
  • Cambridge: CPE; FCE min. grade A; CAE grade B/C;
  • Duolingo: min. 130;
  • Accademia linguistica Trinity School di Roma;
  • Luiss Language Center;
  • International Secondary School Diploma totally taught in English;
  • Bachelor's Degree totally taught in English.

 

Selection Criteria

These are the criteria used to rank your application.

Eligible candidates will be ranked based on the academic performance and the criteria included in the table below. The academic performance is assessed based on the data available to the Student Office by the deadline indicated in the Call for Applications (usually by mid-February).

Registered ECTS credits33%The academic score will take into consideration credits (excluding internships) registered by the end of the winter session 2025/2026. Please note that additional courses (corsi liberi) will not be taken into consideration. 
Credits from early exams will be counted but only up to the maximum score for this criterion, which is 33% of the total score calculation.
English language level25%Calculated according to 6 levels (from A1 to C2) of the CEFR standard
Bachelor's Degree final grade5%Starting from 100 and up to 110 cum laude

Additional Important Rules 

  • Participation in this program will provide additional points to the Final Grade of the Master’s Degree, according to Luiss rules
  • Students will be able to participate only if they have no pending administrative issues with Luiss. 
  • Exams passed at the partner university will be transferred to Luiss according to the study plan. It is not possible to request an official renouncement of the grade registration. 
  • Students selected for this Double Degree program are required to follow the study plan which corresponds to the student’s mobility year. This study plan will be provided in due course by International Degree Programs. Please note that study plans are reviewed annually, and changes might occur to reflect the academic offering of both universities.
