Departments as the core of Luiss research
The 7 Luiss Departments promote and coordinate research activities across various disciplinary fields, contributing to the development of the University’s scientific output, competitive research, and international scientific collaborations.
Through faculty, research groups, observatories, and dedicated centers, the Departments develop projects on topics relevant to society, businesses, and institutions, fostering a dialogue between theoretical and applied research and the policy dimension.
Luiss PhD programs, developed within the Departments, engage doctoral students in scientific activities and international academic networks related to the Departments’ various research areas.
Governance of Research and the Third Mission
The Departments’ research and Third Mission activities are planned, monitored, and evaluated annually through the University’s Quality Assurance system and the SUA-R/TM – the Single Annual Report on Research and Third Mission.

The Department of Accounting and Corporate Finance conducts research on accounting, corporate finance, and financial intermediaries, employing an approach that combines theoretical rigor, quantitative analysis, and real-world applications to markets and businesses. Our scholarly work focuses on corporate governance, financial reporting, asset pricing, corporate finance, and fintech, contributing to the international academic debate through publications, collaborations, and competitive research.

The Department of AI, Data, and Decision Sciences brings together STEM disciplines and the social sciences to conduct advanced research in the fields of artificial intelligence, data science, and decision-making systems. Leveraging expertise in computer science, mathematics, and statistics, the Department advances scientific research on computational models, machine learning, and complex data analysis, with applications spanning markets, organizations, and public policy.
The Department of Business and Management fosters research in management disciplines through scientific work on strategy, organization, marketing, innovation, accounting, and corporate finance. The research combines theoretical and empirical approaches and is conducted in collaboration with universities, businesses, and international networks, contributing to the analysis of decision-making processes, market transformations, and organizational models.

The Department of Economics and Financial Markets conducts theoretical and empirical research on key topics in economics, finance, and public policy. Through econometrics, advanced modeling, and quantitative analysis, the Department addresses issues related to growth, labor, regulation, economic stability, and financial markets, contributing to the international scientific debate across various areas of economics.

The Department of Business Law and Economics fosters research on the interplay between law, business, markets, and regulation, with a focus on the evolving economic systems and governance models within national, European, and international contexts. The research focuses on corporate governance, regulation, business contracts, risk management, and the relationship between law and economics, employing an interdisciplinary and comparative approach.

The Department of Law and Institutions conducts research on legal systems, public institutions, and decision-making processes at various levels of government. Through an interdisciplinary and comparative approach, the Department analyzes the transformations of the state, the role of democratic institutions, European and international law, and emerging challenges related to digitalization, security, and political participation.

The Department of Political Science fosters research on contemporary political, social, and institutional phenomena, integrating approaches from political science, sociology, history, political philosophy, and communication sciences.
