EuARe 2026: the annual conference of the European Academy of Religion is taking place at Luiss

From 30 June to 3 July 2026, Luiss hosted the Ninth Annual Conference of the European Academy of Religion, EuARe 2026, which focused on the theme “Religions and (In)equalities”.

With over 1,200 participants and hundreds of panels, the conference proved to be an international forum for interdisciplinary discussion on the role of religions in contemporary societies.

The theme of the 2026 edition prompted reflection on the many ways in which religions interact with social, economic, political, legal, and cultural inequalities. Religious figures and institutions can contribute to the perpetuation of inequalities, but they can also be sources of solidarity, social mobility, recognition, and resistance.

Analysing these dynamics calls for perspectives that go beyond the study of religions and address the broader structures that permeate contemporary societies. In this sense, the conference theme aligns seamlessly with the mission of Luiss, a university dedicated to the study of politics, economics, law, international affairs, and society.

Alongside the academic programme, EuARe 2026 provided numerous opportunities for informal exchange among participants on the Viale Pola and Via Parenzo campuses. These included panels, networking events, photo exhibitions, book display areas, and meeting spaces both within and outside the University.

The conference also featured a Welcome Reception on 30 June at the Luiss campus in Viale Pola, and made the most of its proximity to two particularly important cultural sites in the Rome area: the Mausoleum of Santa Costanza and the Catacombs of Priscilla.

EuARe 2026 was not only a forum for presenting research, but also an opportunity to foster new collaborations, future projects, and lasting professional relationships.
