The Board of Directors of Luiss has appointed Giorgio Fossa as the new President of the University, following the nomination by the Association of the Free International University of Social Studies (ALUISS).

Giorgio Fossa takes office today, April 9, as the tenth President of the University, where he previously served on the Board of Directors from 1996 to 2000 and from 2010 to 2016. An industrial entrepreneur in the mechanical sector, he has held numerous prominent positions in associations throughout his long career, eventually becoming President of Confindustria from 1996 to 2000. Since 1990, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of ALIUC – Associazione per il Libero Istituto Universitario Carlo Cattaneo. He also served as Chairman of Il Sole 24 Ore S.p.A. from 1995 to 1996 and again from 2016 to 2018, and as Chairman of Business School 24 S.p.A. from 2018 to 2023.

The University and my staff extend our deepest thanks to Luigi Gubitosi for leading Luiss with a strong sense of responsibility and strategic vision, and for the significant achievements during his tenure,” says the new President, Fossa, adding, “It is a source of great pride for me to assume the presidency of such a prestigious institution, with a well-established history of growth and a future marked by innovation. Together with the university’s academic and professional community, and building on our deep and natural bond with Confindustria, we will continue to work to strengthen this university’s role as a center of excellence for training the next generation of global leaders.”

Giorgio Fossa succeeds Luigi Gubitosi, who has been in office since October 2023 and led the University through a period marked by significant achievements. He strengthened partnerships with prestigious international universities, increased investments in academics and student services, revamped governance, and bolstered organizational efficiency, closing out the 2024 financial year with the best results ever.

I leave a university in excellent shape, both academically and administratively, with a refreshed educational offering and enhanced services,” says Luigi Gubitosi. He continues: “Luiss is approaching its 50th anniversary with a solid foundation, ready to tackle the challenges of the future and continue its mission: to shape the country’s new leadership class, equipping students with the essential skills and values to responsibly and ethically navigate the great transformation brought about by artificial intelligence. I wish the new President, Giorgio Fossa, all the best in his work. I'm passing the baton into excellent hands.”
