The Luiss Institute for European Analysis and Policy is established
The Scientific Committee of LEAP (Luiss Institute for European Analysis and Policy), the Luiss University think tank dedicated to European issues, will meet for the first time tomorrow, Thursday, July 6. LEAP was established on the foundations of the School of European Political Economy (SEP), which, over the course of a decade, has successfully established itself as a center of excellence in the European debate.
The Luiss Institute for European Analysis and Policy is chaired by economist and former Minister of Economy and Finance Domenico Siniscalco, and directed by Valentina Meliciani, Professor of Applied Economics at Luiss. LEAP's Scientific Committee, chaired by Sabino Cassese, includes numerous prominent academics: Cinzia Alcidi, Carlo Bastasin, Pierpaolo Benigno, Marco Buti, Thomas Christiansen, Claudio De Vincenti, Anna Giunta, Simona Iammarino, Javier Lopez-Gonzales, Stefano Manzocchi, Valentina Meliciani, Marcello Messori, Alina Mungiu-Pippidi, Pier Carlo Padoan, Sofia Ranchordas, Pietro Reichlin, Francesco Saraceno, Domenico Siniscalco, Maria Savona, and Robert Schuetze.
The new think tank aims to bolster the contribution of ideas, analyses, and proposals in the fields of economic governance and industrial policy. It will draw on leading experts and scholars, as well as students and scholars from the University who are associated with LEAP, all within a framework of collaboration and robust dialogue with other research institutions. LEAP therefore aims to become a leading voice in the Italian and European debate by publishing studies and organizing seminars on topics of great public importance.
The calendar of events organized on the Luiss campus in Viale Romania is packed: tomorrow, Thursday, July 6, there will be a meeting on the prospects of EU enlargement to Ukraine, featuring contributions from Sergio Fabbrini, Alina Mungiu-Pippidi, and Nicola Verola, with conclusions by Sabino Cassese. The program continues on Monday, July 10, with a workshop on the reconfiguration of value chains, and on Thursday, July 13, there will be a meeting dedicated to European industrial policy, which will also include the participation of Adolfo Urso, the Minister for Business and Made in Italy, and Fabrizio Balassone, the Chief of Staff of the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs.
LEAP has already established a hub focused on industrial policies: the Luiss Hub for New Industrial Policy and Economic Governance (LUHNIP), initiated by Donato di Carlo with a grant from the German think tank Dezernat Zukunft, directed by Philippa Sigl-Glöckner. Through this collaboration, LEAP has joined the European Macro Policy Network.
