The Board of Directors of Luiss Guido Carli University has appointed Professor Paolo Boccardelli as the new Rector of the university, effective June 26, 2024. Boccardelli succeeds Professor Andrea Prencipe, who is concluding his second term.

Paolo Boccardelli, a 52-year-old Rome native and a Luiss alumnus, brings with him a wealth of experience in teaching and academic research. He is currently a full professor of Economics and Business Management and Business Strategy, and he directs the “Franco Fontana” Research Center for Strategic Change at Luiss. He previously served as the Director of the Luiss Business School.

President Luigi Gubitosi stated: “With the appointment of Prof. Paolo Boccardelli, Luiss Guido Carli renews its commitment to academic excellence, preparing to tackle the future challenges facing higher education.” The President also thanked the outgoing Rector, Andrea Prencipe, for his significant contributions to internationalization and research, and for transforming Luiss into a global benchmark.

Over the past six years, the University has maintained a strong focus on innovation and interdisciplinary education, solidifying its position in leading international rankings. It remains among the top 20 globally and ranks first in Italy for Political and International Studies according to the QS World University Ranking by Subject 2024. Additionally, its Master’s in Management climbed to 30th place globally in the latest Financial Times ranking, up from 90th in 2019.  

In recent years, Luiss has expanded its international network and strengthened its ties with its core ecosystem, starting with its institutional partners, the business world, and its alumni network.

In his message of thanks to the University’s leadership, Prof. Andrea Prencipe stated: “I am very pleased and fully satisfied with the results Luiss has achieved in terms of internationalization, interdisciplinarity, and innovation. I wish Professor Paolo Boccardelli every success in his new role. I am confident that, alongside the University’s new team, he will be able to lead the institution with continuity, aiming to build upon the achievements made.”

The new Rector, Paolo Boccardelli, commented: “It is a great honor for me to accept this position. I will work to further strengthen Luiss’s role and prestige in Italy and abroad, in close collaboration with my colleagues and the leadership of the University and Confindustria.”
