Engaged Research

“Engaged” research encompasses the various ways in which researchers interact or collaborate meaningfully with different stakeholders at one or all stages of the process. The aim is to investigate and analyse issues of public interest, sharing the results of scientific research with the community and thereby maximising its social impact.

The valorisation of research – the process of transforming scientific results into productive knowledge that can find economic and commercial applications in the market – falls within the scope of Third Mission activities. These activities originate from research and feed back into it, often in the form of scientific contributions to be disseminated through various communication channels.

Luiss works with and for the local area, alongside its stakeholders, to remain a driving force behind new initiatives that address society's real needs and advance a socially inclusive model of research.

The primary objective is to develop and strengthen high-quality scientific research – both basic and applied – focused on interdisciplinary topics that are of direct interest to institutions and companies. This is achieved, first and foremost, by increasing opportunities for collaboration and discussion with national and international stakeholders, as well as among members of the scientific community. The aim is to build a much richer and more innovative productive critical mass, for the benefit of society as a whole.

Through the work of its Research Centres as well, Luiss collaborates with and shares resources, knowledge, and expertise with a wide range of individuals and organisations. This underscores its strong connection with the business and institutional spheres and strengthens the University's engagement.
