Engaged Research

Engaged Research

What is Engaged Research?

Engaged research encompasses the various ways in which researchers meaningfully interact or collaborate with different stakeholders at any or all stages of the process. The aim is to investigate and analyze issues of public interest, share the results of scientific research with the community, and maximize their social impact.

The valorization of research—transforming scientific results into productive knowledge with economic and commercial applications in the market—falls within the scope of the Third Mission. This mission originates from research and returns to it, often as scientific contributions disseminated through various communication channels.

Engaged Research at Luiss University

Luiss works with and for the local community, alongside its stakeholders, to remain a driving force behind new initiatives that address society's real needs and move toward a socially inclusive research model.

The primary goal is to develop and strengthen research of high scientific value, both basic and applied, that focuses on interdisciplinary topics of direct interest to institutions and companies. This is achieved primarily by expanding opportunities for collaboration and dialogue with national and international stakeholders, as well as among members of the scientific community, to create a much richer and more innovative critical mass of productivity that benefits the community.

Through the work of its Research Centers, Luiss also collaborates and shares resources, knowledge, and expertise with a wide range of individuals and organizations, underscoring its strong connection with the business and institutional sectors and enhancing the university’s engagement.

Through various communication channels—including the University's research magazine, Luiss Open, the Research Newsletter, podcasts, and video clips on research activities—Luiss fosters an ongoing dialogue between its academics and its broader network of researchers, professionals, institutions, and employers.
