Our Story

Our Story

Since 1966, we've been inspiring the leaders of tomorrow through an educational model that turns knowledge into action.

We emerged from the transformation of Pro Deo University, founded in 1966, with a clear vision: to blend academic rigor with real-world dynamics to shape individuals capable of driving change.

In 1974, a group of entrepreneurs led by Umberto Agnelli launched an educational project that was groundbreaking for Italy at the time: admission based on selection, a set number of students, and a curriculum developed in direct collaboration with businesses. This connection to the world of work still sets us apart today, ensuring our students have a 95% employment rate just one year after graduation.

In 1977, we adopted the name Luiss – Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali. The following year, Guido Carli became its President, solidifying an academic model based on real-world impact and strong ties to the economic and institutional sectors.

In 1982, we expanded our offerings by introducing the Faculty of Law alongside the existing Faculties of Economics and Political Science, extending the Luiss model to new disciplinary areas.

In 1994, the Board of Directors named the University after Guido Carli, acknowledging his key role in the university’s development and positioning.

Three years later, in 1997, we founded what is now the Luiss Business School, an institution of excellence that today holds the “Triple Crown” of accreditations (AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS).

Over the years

We have outlined a new training model that integrates an international dimension, teaching, and relationships with companies and institutions. The goal is to prepare students for complex and ever-changing professional environments.
