Career leave

Career leave

A student who intends to suspend their university studies must submit an application on legal paper, with a stamp duty of €16, along with supporting documentation outlining the reasons for the requested suspension.

The application must be submitted by the enrollment deadline for the academic year for which the suspension is requested. An application can only be submitted if it is properly documented and exclusively for one of the following reasons:

  1. continuation of studies at: foreign universities, Italian military academies, doctoral programs, postgraduate schools, or master's programs
  2. maternity, paternity,
  3. severe and prolonged illness (to be proven by submitting medical records).

If a student is granted a suspension of studies, they are required to pay a fee of €500.00. Except for the cases outlined in point 1, where the suspension can be extended for the normal duration of continued studies, a request for suspension can be made only once during a student's university career and for a maximum of one academic year.

During the academic year in which the student's enrollment is suspended, the student is not required to pay any additional university fees or contributions, and they may not take any exams or perform any academic procedures. The year of suspension is not considered for the purposes of academic progress or the calculation of deadlines.
