Luiss and Generali join forces to address the changing world of work
Supporting the major changes taking place in the world of work by promoting a new, participatory, and inclusive model of industrial relations. This is the goal of the Transformation Hub, a project established through an agreement between Generali and the trade unions, with scientific collaboration from Luiss University.
The project was presented on 1 October at CNEL's national headquarters in Rome, during the event "Building the Future of Work Together".
Luiss's scientific contribution
Luiss coordinates the Transformation Hub's three-year work plan using a methodology that combines applied research, impact analysis, joint training programmes for managers and trade union representatives, and policy and governance workshops.
The project is structured around three joint committees, known as the “Hubs”, each dedicated to one of three areas of transformation in the world of work:
- artificial intelligence and models of work organisation;
- sustainability and the implementation of ESG models within companies;
- demographics, active ageing, and skills management.
Between April and May 2026, four working sessions led by Luiss faculty took place, involving around 50 representatives from companies and trade unions. The aim was to turn the outcomes of these discussions into research objectives that would support the evolution of work organisation.
A bridge between research, businesses, and the world of work
Among those who attended the meeting were Luiss President Giorgio Fossa, Director General Rita Carisano, and Luiss faculty members Giuseppe Italiano, Matteo Caroli, and Maria Rita Testa, along with representatives from CNEL, Generali, and the trade unions involved in the project.
“The collaboration with Generali, presented today at the CNEL, is truly unique and demonstrates Luiss’s ability to act as a strategic bridge between advanced scientific research, businesses, and the world of work,” said Giorgio Fossa, President of Luiss Guido Carli University. He added: “Today’s discussion highlighted how global transitions are also driving a modernisation of industrial relations, in which skills and participation are central.” In this project with Generali, Luiss has brought to bear all its scientific expertise to test a model that I believe will be transferable to other companies.”
The initiative forms part of an effort to develop tools for analysis and discussion that can support transformations linked to artificial intelligence, social sustainability, and demographic change, by connecting academic research, organisations, and the world of work.
