The new Luiss website: an open, accessible, and evolving digital ecosystem

Over a year of hard work, a revamped information repository, a multisite design system, and new AI-driven research. The new luiss.it website stems from a clear vision: to create a digital experience that is clear, reliable, and measurable, in line with the needs of an international university community.

A university’s website is where students begin to envision their future, where lecturers and researchers share knowledge, and where businesses, institutions, alumni, and stakeholders connect with the university.

For this reason, rethinking Luiss Guido Carli's digital presence couldn't simply be a matter of a graphic restyling. The project called for a thorough overhaul of the entire ecosystem: from information architecture to technology, from content quality to accessibility, from internal research to performance measurement, right down to the processes that govern the site and allow it to evolve over time.

Communicating better means choosing what's useful to keep

One of the most challenging aspects of the new Luiss website involved the information assets, which had grown and become layered over the years. Each area was thoroughly analysed to identify duplicates, outdated information, and sections that were no longer relevant. The content architecture was completely redesigned, and the data assets were streamlined.

Simplification means making it easier to find, understand, and use all content.

Research that makes questions simpler

The way we access information is also changing. Increasingly, users aren't just entering simple keywords; they're asking full questions and expecting immediate, clear, relevant, and verifiable answers.

For these reasons, the University’s new website incorporates advanced search functionality and an AI-based agent, designed to understand natural language and help those who want to learn more about us find their way around. The answers are anchored to the University’s official content: AI doesn’t replace institutional sources, but rather makes them easier to access. It’s a choice that combines innovation with responsibility, keeping the focus on reliable information and our content governance.

Key skills for a shared transformation

For such a significant project, Luiss has chosen partners capable of integrating strategic vision, design, technological expertise, and editorial oversight, working as a single supply chain and a single team alongside the University’s core team.

Altura Labs supported Luiss from the very beginning as a strategic consultant, handling end-to-end direction and governance, information architecture, stakeholder coordination, content rationalisation, SEO migration, and tracking strategies.

SparkFabrik handled the analysis and technological implementation, including UX and UI in close collaboration with the project teams, design system, Drupal development, cloud-native infrastructure, AI-based research, and the technical implementation of accessibility requirements.

Pezzilli & Company contributed to the editorial work and supported the University during the delicate go-live phase.

The strength and quality of the collaboration between different areas of expertise were crucial. But equally crucial was the Luiss community’s willingness to challenge the status quo, to rethink it, and to listen to different perspectives in order to achieve a shared goal.
