LLM Educational Program with American University
Highlights
The students selected for the Double Degree will be registered at Luiss during their time at WCL and will continue to pay tuition fees at Luiss. Students will be exempt from paying tuition at WCL, however, for the academic year 2026-2027, they will be required to bear the following administrative costs related to the program:
• Student health insurance: approximately $3,000 for 2 semesters, if obtained through WCL - tbc
• Fees: $900 per semester ($1800 total) - tbc
In order to earn the two diplomas, students will have to be in compliance with both their home and host universities' rules and conditions with regard to credits, attendance, deadlines etc.

Application Process
The Call for Application is published on Early December 2025 and students will be able to apply starting from 8 January 2026. Further information on the deadlines are reported in the table below. Details regarding the application process that are not available in this web page, will be available in the Call for Applications 2026/27, uploaded in the 'Useful documents' section at the bottom of this page.
Who can apply
Students enrolled in the fourth year of the single-cycle Master's degree program in Law can apply to this program. According to their major, students can apply for:
- LL.M. in International Legal Studies open to students majoring in Diritto Internazionale, Diritto Penale, Diritto Societario e Tributario, Diritto ed Economia delle Imprese, European Law, Diritto civile
- LL.M. in Law and Government open to students majoring in Diritto Penale, Diritto societario e Tributario, Diritto ed Economia delle Imprese, Diritto Civile, Diritto Amministrativo
- LL.M. in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law open to students majoring in Diritto Internazionale
- LL.M. in Intellectual Property and Technology open to students majoring in Law and Innovation, Diritto ed Economia delle Imprese
- LL.M. in Advocacy open to students majoring in Diritto Penale
- LLM in International Business and Trade Law open to students majoring in European Law
- LLM in Gender, International and Comparative Law open to students majoring in Diritto internazionale, Diritto penale, Diritto civile
- LLM in International Arbitration and Business Law open to students majoring in Diritto societario e tributario, Diritto ed economia delle imprese, Diritto internazionale, Diritto civile

Requirements
Eligible students can apply if they comply with the following requirements:
- have passed and registered at least a total of 180 credits
- possess a weighted average grade equal to or above 27/30
- possess one of the following English certificates:
- TOEFL: min. 563 paper Based; min. 84 IBT
- IELTS: min. 6.5 overall (Online test accepted)
- Pearson Academic (PTE): min. 56
- Duolingo English Test: min.110
The language certificates must not be older than two years from the start of the mobility (August/September 2026). Applicants must meet the requirements using a single test.
Selection Procedure
Luiss University will select a shortlist of candidates based on a non-disputable evaluation of the academic profile and the motivation of the student. Further details about the selection process would be published along with the call publication.
Results will be communicated at WLC which reserves the right to make the final choice.
The selection follows a 3-step process:
| Step 1 | The eligible candidates will be ranked after the analysis of their academic performance (credits 53%, credits for internship 2%, weighted average grade 45%). |
| Step 2 | An interview will focus on the motivation, the academic background and the previous international or professional experiences |
| Step 3 | The partner Universities, analyzing the Luiss Commission ranking and the candidates’ dossiers, has the right to confirm the final ranking. |

Study Plan
Requirements for Luiss students to earn the WCL LL.M.:
All students must complete the 24-credit program as outlined by whichever in-residence LL.M. degree they choose. Students are required to take the following mandatory courses:
- American Legal Institutions
- Legal Research and Writing
Individual programs may have additional required courses. This information will be shared with the student upon admission to the dual degree program. In order to remain in good academic standing, LL.M. students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 (a C average). All LL.M. students are required to complete either a Research Track or a Practical Skills Track. Students in the Research Track will complete a research paper in order to qualify for graduation. Students in the Practical Skills Track must complete an approved externship before graduating.
