An extracurricular internship is a training period lasting at least two months. It is intended for undergraduate students who have already applied for their degree and for unemployed graduates, and is completed at companies, public entities, or professional firms with the goal of entering the workforce. The internship is not considered an employment relationship.

This type of internship is governed by the “Guidelines on Internships,” and more specifically by the regulations of individual regions and autonomous provinces. These regulations establish common regional standards, such as how the intern performs their duties and the minimum monthly stipend.

The host employer or organization must initiate the extracurricular internship.

Request to initiate an extracurricular internship:

• Extracurricular internship – based in Italy: Send an email to tirociniextracurriculari@luiss.it, providing the following information:
  • Name of the student/graduate;
  • Location of the internship.

Our reply email will outline the steps to follow on an external portal. The internship will be activated within a maximum of 2–3 business days.

• Extracurricular internship – based abroad: Luiss supports the activation of extracurricular internships abroad for undergraduate and graduate students. Please note that not all countries allow the activation of internships for graduates; therefore, the University operates in compliance with the applicable regulations in force for each country, which can be viewed at the following link.

Note: For all graduating students currently completing a curricular internship in Italy through Luiss, the host company may request that the internship be converted from curricular to extracurricular before the student’s graduation date.

This procedure ensures a seamless transition between completing your university studies and starting your new journey as a recent graduate, maintaining continuity in your educational and professional experience.
