Free Mover Semester
Please note: Students interested in individual courses at Luiss (Free Mover incoming students) should contact the Admissions Office (ammissione@luiss.it). Possible Free Mover destinations
Abroad, these students are referred to as Visiting Students, Guest Students, or Fee-Paying Students. It’s important to keep this in mind when contacting partner universities.
- For Bachelor's degrees, you can submit your application in the second year of the program to study abroad during the first semester of the third year.
- For Master’s degrees, you can submit your application in the first year of the program to study abroad during the first semester of the second year.
- For the Single-Cycle Degree in Law, you can submit your application in the third year to study abroad for the first or second semester of the following year (fourth year), or in the fourth year to study abroad for the first semester of the following year (fifth year). You will need to specify the starting semester in the “additional declarations” field when submitting your application via the Web Self Service.
Students must apply for their chosen destination via the Web Self Service between April 14 and 28, 2026, by 12:00 PM (noon).
Potential destinations are the universities listed in the list of possible destinations. These destinations are already available on the Web Self Service, and you don't need to seek prior approval from the Delegate or the International Student Mobility office.
Before applying, you will need to independently verify that you meet the necessary requirements, that the courses you are interested in are available, and that the deadlines are compatible.
Students have the opportunity to request approval for additional new universities between April 14 and April 23, 2026, by noon, to spend their time abroad.
New proposals should be sent to freemover@luiss.it and must include a link to the Free Mover page of the chosen foreign university (or any email exchanges with the institution, brochures, etc.).
Under no circumstances will institutions with which Luiss already has an Erasmus/Bilateral exchange agreement be approved.
With the “wearefreemovers” database, you can search for universities where you can spend your Free Mover semester, using filters for country, deadlines, course offerings, and costs. The university profiles also include useful information and contact details. Luiss merely provides this platform to students and has no authority to control or oversee the content posted there or its reliability.
It is always advisable to visit the host institution's website directly and to correspond with them via email to obtain the most accurate and up-to-date information.
New institutions are approved on two levels: administratively by the International Student Mobility office and academically by the designated Area faculty member:
- After verifying that there are no impediments, the office will approve the institution and add it to the available destinations on the Self-Service Web platform. This will allow the student to submit their formal application through the system within the timeframe and according to the procedures outlined in these Regulations.
- Upon notification from the International Student Mobility office, students must then complete a proposed study plan (Learning Agreement) directly on the Self-Service Web for the institution they have applied to, no later than May 15, 2026.
- This study plan will be submitted for evaluation by the Area delegate, who can approve or reject the proposal on the online platform. If the plan is approved, the student will be admitted to the program for the selected destination. If the study plan is rejected, students can submit a new proposal within the next 24 hours and repeat the process until it is approved.
Once the online Learning Agreement is approved and the application is successful, students must independently complete the necessary procedures to formalize their departure, such as enrolling at the foreign university, making payments, and registering for courses.
Luiss has no agreements for this type of program and therefore cannot guarantee eligibility for the possible destinations in any way. Free Mover students are not subject to a selection or nomination process by the International Student Mobility Office. Luiss handles the recognition of courses taken abroad and cannot coordinate between students and the host university.
Please note: All students will receive a 0.5 bonus point on their final degree grade after the Free Mover Semester, provided they have passed at least two exams. The exams must count toward the credits required to earn the degree; language courses and elective courses are excluded.
