Course recognition
⚠️ Important Notice: Update on International Mobility Requirements for the 2026/2027 academic year
We would like to inform students that the criteria for the minimum credit balance for the current academic year have undergone a regulatory change: for the 2026–2027 academic year, students are required to complete at least 85% of the total Luiss credits recognized within the Learning Agreement (LA) at the host university abroad.
This change means that the study plans approved during the 2025–2026 academic year, which can be viewed below, may no longer meet the new required standards. If the percentage is below 85%, one or more foreign courses will need to be added.
History of Approved Courses in 25-26. Please note: these recognitions are merely a record and can serve as a guide for students seeking orientation or an understanding of the recognition process used by the Area Delegate. However, they are not the only courses that can be validated at Luiss following a mobility period, nor do they in any way constitute a binding precedent. There are no curricula that are recognized in advance. This is because, from one year to the next, the content, the semesters in which courses are offered at foreign institutions, or the recognition rules at Luiss could change, making a previous approval invalid for the current academic year.
The educational offerings at foreign campuses are much broader than what is listed in the pre-approved courses. In fact, those courses only reflect the personal choices of individual students in the previous academic year. Interested students will need to create a new Learning Agreement proposal based on the course offerings at the host institution.
Free Mover students will not be able to obtain recognition for courses taken prior to the year of their mobility.
Students on exchange programs can earn up to a maximum of the following credits abroad:
36 Luiss credits for all degree programs, excluding the single-cycle program in Law.
5 Luiss courses for the single-cycle Law degree program.
Students must select the most suitable courses from the host university’s program offerings. For the submission, it's advisable to select the courses for which recognition is most likely.
For recognition purposes:
Before enrolling at a foreign university, students are responsible for verifying that the courses they are interested in are offered by the foreign university and that the details of previously approved courses (credits, program, etc.) have not changed.
For the validation and recognition of mandatory courses without recognition flexibility, the Luiss and foreign courses must have a high degree of compatibility and similarity in terms of their curricula. The Registrar's Office will record these courses in the student's transcript with the title of the corresponding Luiss compulsory course.
Courses taken abroad may be recognized as Elective Abroad courses in place of Luiss elective courses, as Core Abroad courses in place of required courses with flexible recognition, or as a specific Luiss required course.
Elective Abroad and Core Abroad courses will be recognized under their foreign names, and there will be no need to identify foreign courses that are similar to specific Luiss courses. It will be sufficient for them to be consistent with the educational objectives of your degree program and not to be too similar in title or content to other courses within your program. For Law students, courses taken abroad may be recognized as Elective Abroad courses in place of Luiss elective courses, and as Core Abroad courses in place of two profile courses required by their degree program. These courses will be recognized under their foreign titles.
For students in Administration, Finance, and Control and Data Science and Management, courses taken abroad may be recognized as Elective Abroad in place of Luiss elective courses, and as Mandatory Abroad in place of the required courses for the mobility year in their degree program. These courses will be recognized under their foreign designations.
However, “Mandatory Abroad” courses must fall within the same scientific-disciplinary field as the course they replace, as indicated in this list.
Overall credit balance: The total credits earned abroad must be at least 85% of the credits recognized at Luiss. To balance the credits, you may need to link one or more additional foreign courses (known as compensatory courses) to get a Luiss course recognized. Compensatory courses should ideally be relevant to your educational path. Language courses may be recognized as compensatory only in exceptional cases, and always at the delegate's discretion.
Under no circumstances will individual course combinations be approved if the credits from the course abroad are less than 50% of the credits from the course recognized at Luiss.
<p style="line-height:14.0pt;">For courses abroad with a large number of credits, you can link a single course abroad to two Luiss courses. However, when such a double association is included in the Learning Agreement, the total credits earned abroad must be at least 100% of those recognized by Luiss for the entire plan.
