Curricular internships
An internship is a hands-on learning experience that can be completed in Italy or abroad with public or private entities or employers (companies, professional firms, institutions, organizations, other universities, associations, or research centers). Its goal is to round out a student’s education by applying the theoretical skills acquired during their studies and guiding them toward a future career path.
An internship can be:
- “mandatory” curricular / with CFU, meaning it is completed as a student, is part of the study plan, is tied to earning university credits (CFU), and must be finished before the degree is awarded;
- “optional” curricular / without CFU, meaning it is completed as a student but without earning CFU, and it must be finished before the degree is awarded;
- extracurricular, meaning it is completed by a graduate who is not enrolled in another university program. The maximum duration is regulated according to the region where the internship takes place.
HOW TO ACTIVATE A CURRICULAR INTERNSHIP
The host institution or employer must request the activation of the internship online at least 5 working days before the start, following the instructions on the Curricular Internship Activation Request page. Students cannot submit the activation request. What are the different steps in the process? See the infographic.
