Enhancing Research
Luiss has always been distinguished by its close integration with the business world, which takes the form of a continuous exchange of experiences at both the local and international levels. This exchange is facilitated by the fact that, as a university specialising in the social sciences, Luiss produces research that is both rigorous and directly applicable, without the need for the intellectual property protection and commercialisation activities typically carried out by Technology Transfer Offices.
Activities on behalf of third parties
Luiss is constantly strengthening and innovating the conditions and mechanisms that enable the results of its applied research and consultancy activities to be disseminated and used effectively, both in its educational programmes and in enhancing its impact on the country’s economic, business, and social ecosystem. It also supports the development of relational capital that fosters the co-creation of knowledge and stimulates both internal and external stakeholders.
In particular, the Luiss Research Centres specialize in engaged research undertaken on a commissioned basis, thanks to their strong connections with the business and institutional spheres, both locally and internationally. The Centres are home to Observatories and Laboratories dedicated to exploring specific topics, some of which have been established in collaboration with companies or other external partners.
Intermediary organizations
Luiss promotes the outcomes of its research by making use of a range of structures dedicated to fostering connections with the local area.
Consortia and associations with Third Mission objectives
The creation of a networking group dedicated to alumni, the Luiss Alumni Association (ALL), dates back to 1986. For over thirty years, it has served as the primary, established, and distinctive meeting point for the university’s alumni. Luiss is also a founding partner of the Start Cup Lazio collaborative network and is part of numerous inter-university consortia with aims that fall within the scope of the Third Mission, such as the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), the Blue Italian Growth Cluster (CTN-BIG), ENGAGE.EU, the International Universities Climate Alliance, and the EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Consortium.
Placement Offices
Luiss is distinguished by its privileged relationship with the world of work. More than 500 companies, public and private institutions, and multinational corporations collaborate with the University to provide undergraduates and recent graduates with their first tangible opportunities to enter the world of work. The Career Service, a placement service closely linked to the work of the Alumni Office, was launched in 1997. Today, the organisational integration of these two entities maximises the value of the network and extends Luiss’s global geographical presence, also for the purposes of placement.
Incubators
In keeping with the world's leading and most innovative universities and their alumni associations, the Luiss Alumni 4 Growth (LA4G) investment club has been active since 2019. It provides financial support to Luiss-related start-ups, drawing on the unique network of alumni who have achieved professional and entrepreneurial success.
The network of investors, companies, and institutions is also strengthened by the activities of the Luiss EnLabs startup accelerator, which was established in 2013 as a joint venture between LVenture Group and Luiss and operates in Rome and Milan (at the Milano Luiss Hub).
Other intermediary organizations
The Research and Third Mission Office helps bring together Research Centres and potential companies and institutions that award contracts, and supports efforts to disseminate and promote high-quality research outcomes.
The Partnership, Industrial Relations, and Financial Aid offices were established to support all activities carried out in collaboration with companies and to promote the sharing of Luiss values with the outside world.
