Programme features  

The Double Degree Programme brings together Luiss’s expertise in Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) with Victoria University of Wellington’s specialisation in International Relations. The course provides multidisciplinary training on key global challenges, enabling students to develop the analytical and interpretative skills needed for careers in diplomacy, international organisations, and public policy analysis. 

Programme structure  

The programme is structured as follows: 

  • The first and second years are spent at Luiss; 
  • The third year takes place at Victoria University of Wellington. 

Available places  

The programme offers 5 places for each academic year.     

Who is eligible to apply?  

Students enrolled in the second year of the Luiss Bachelor’s Degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics in the 2026–2027 academic year are eligible to apply to participate in the Programme during the 2027–2028 mobility year.

Fees and contributions

Luiss students pay their tuition fees solely to Luiss and are therefore exempt from paying tuition fees at Victoria University of Wellington. 

Qualifications awarded  

Upon completing the Programme, students are awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Luiss and a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from Victoria University of Wellington.  

To be awarded the Double Degree, participants must meet all academic requirements and comply with the regulations set by both universities.

Key Academic Regulations

  • Students who are interested are encouraged to carefully review the programme's study plan and the associated rules. Generally, changes to the study plan are not permitted. 
  • The exams required by the study plan and to be taken at Luiss must be completed before the year of mobility. 
  • During the mobility period, students will be required to comply with the regulations and procedures of Victoria University of Wellington. 

Information about the thesis

Detailed information about the procedures and deadlines will be provided by each university in due course. By way of illustration:   

  • Only Luiss requires the submission of a final thesis. 
  • There is no final oral examination required to obtain the Bachelor's degree; instead, the written dissertation will be assessed. 
  • Students are required to comply with the procedures and deadlines set by Luiss for the submission of their dissertations. 
  • The dissertation proposal must be approved by the Luiss supervisor and meet the university's academic standards. 
  • The final assessment of the dissertation will be carried out in accordance with the criteria and procedures adopted by Luiss.

  • Students selected for a Double Degree programme are required to follow the study plan set out for the year of mobility, including any subsequent changes, particularly those relating to language courses and other academic activities.

Admission Criteria (mobility year 2026/27)

For future mobility years, the admission requirements are reviewed and updated annually on this web page, typically in September.

Requirements for applications for the 2026/2027 mobility year
Having obtained at least 72 ECTS credits by the deadline specified in the Call for Applications (usually mid-February)
Have achieved a weighted average of 27/30 or higher by the deadline specified in the Call for Applications (usually mid-February).

Demonstrate a level of English language proficiency of at least C1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), as certified by one of the following qualifications: 

  • TOEFL iBT: minimum score of 91/120 
  • IELTS: minimum score of 7.0 
  • Cambridge: CPE; FCE with a minimum grade of A; CAE with a grade of B or C 
  • Duolingo: a minimum score of 130 
  • Trinity School Language Academy in Rome: C1 level 
  • Luiss University Language Centre: C1 level 
  • an international secondary school diploma obtained after completing a course conducted entirely in English. 

Selection criteria (mobility year 2026/27)

Registered credits 55% The academic score will take into account the credits recorded by the end of the 2025–2026 winter session. Any elective courses will not be taken into account. Credits earned through exams taken in advance will be counted, but only up to the maximum score set for this criterion, which is 55% of the overall score. 
Weighted average 35% Calculated from the minimum valid mark of 18/30. 
Level of English language proficiency 10% Calculated on the basis of the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), from A1 to C2.
