Before arrival

Before arrival

In the sections below, you'll find useful information to prepare for your arrival at Luiss.

Welcome email

If you are an international student selected for one of our programs, you will receive an email at the start of summer with all the information you need about Rome, Luiss, and the services offered by our University.

Invitation letter

All non-EU students who have been admitted to any program at Luiss University will receive an official invitation letter (after sending the personal information needed to issue the letter to the Welcome Desk), which is to be used when applying for an Italian study visa. Hard copies of the acceptance letters will only be sent to students who need to apply for a visa.

EU students who need an invitation letter are kindly requested to inform the Welcome Desk.

Pre-Enrollment and Visas

Important information for non-EU students: If you need to apply for a visa to enter Italy, please note that the Italian Ministry for University and Research has published the Procedures for entry, residency, and enrollment in Italian Higher Education Institutions for students requiring a Visa for the 2025/26 academic year. Once you have read the document, you can begin your pre-enrollment procedure on the Universitaly portal. Luiss will validate your pre-enrollment application only after you complete enrollment on the Luiss Web Self-Service portal. Please note that pre-enrollment through UniversItaly is mandatory; students who fail to apply for pre-enrollment in time for their arrival in Italy may not obtain a visa.

Students who need a study visa for Italy can visit the dedicated page on the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation's website to check the necessary documentation and the specific Consulate/Embassy/Visa center to contact. Please note that, according to the national procedures mentioned above, study visas for Italy must be finalized before November 30, 2025.

Once in Italy, non-EU students must apply for a residence permit no later than 8 working days, including Saturdays, after their arrival date (as indicated on their visa, inside their passport, or on their travel document).

Pre-arrival orientation meetings

The Welcome Desk will organize a series of online meetings between March and July 2025, prior to the arrival of international students. These webinars are held online on different days to ensure all international students can participate. Incoming students will also get an overview of the Luiss world awaiting them in September.

During the webinars, Luiss staff will introduce the Welcome Desk, Admissions, and Residences offices and services.
Furthermore, Luiss staff will provide information about the Italian university system and the following bureaucratic procedures for international students:

  • Visa application for study purposes (for non-EU students)
  • Residence permit application for study purposes (for non-EU students)
  • Health insurance policy and registration with the Italian National Health Service
  • Request for a Tax Code (Codice Fiscale)
  • Registration with the Municipality of Rome (for EU students)
  • Opening a bank account
