On arrival

On arrival

In the sections below, you'll find everything you need to know and prepare for your first days at Luiss and in Rome.

Welcome Days and Orientation

The International Development Office will set a mandatory arrival day, usually at the beginning of September.

An orientation meeting will be held for all Double Degree, QTEM, and Structured Partnership students. At this meeting, our staff will provide you with all the information you need about Rome and Luiss, covering both academic and more practical matters.

At the end of the Orientation Day, there will be a small reception, offering an opportunity to meet other international students and socialize.

Digital Learning

On this page, you'll find very useful information about the following services:

  • Create a Luiss account
  • Create a Keyless account
  • Web Self Service
  • Luiss app
  • Luiss Learn

Residence Permit

Once in Italy, non-EU students must apply for a residence permit no later than 8 working days after their arrival date (as indicated on their visa, inside their passport, or on their travel document). The procedure will be carefully explained during the Pre-Arrival Orientation Meetings and the Welcome Days.

Italian Tax Code

The Italian tax code number is composed of letters and numbers. According to Italian law, the tax code identifies individuals in all their dealings with Italian public authorities and other administrations. The tax code is strictly personal. Non-EU and EU students must obtain an Italian tax code number in order to:

  • Enroll in the Italian National Health Service (SSN)
  • Open a bank account
  • Start an internship or get a job

Students can request a tax code upon their arrival in Italy by sending an email to the Italian Revenue Agency (dp.iroma@agenziaentrate.it) and attaching the following documents:

  • Form AA48 in Italian;
  • Luiss invitation letter;
  • a copy of your ID;
  • a copy of your passport and visa (for non-EU students)
  • Proof of accommodation in Italy (such as a rental contract or, if you will live in one of the Luiss Residences, you can contact Luiss Residences for a certificate of accommodation);
  • Residence permit or application receipt (for non-EU students).

Opening a bank account

If you need to open a bank account in Italy, you should present the following documentation to the bank of your choice:

  • Italian tax code number
  • Identity document (ID/passport/travel document) and visa (non-EU students)
  • Invitation letter (if you are a first-year student) or Certificate of Enrollment from the University, which you can request from the Student Office;
  • Proof of accommodation in Italy (such as a rental contract or, if you will live in one of the Luiss Residences, you can contact Luiss Residences for a certificate of accommodation);
  • Residence permit or the receipt of the application (for non-EU students)
  • Italian mobile phone number (may be required)

When a third party sends money via wire transfer to a bank account holder, they must first send the money to the bank (meaning the funds cannot be transferred directly to an individual’s bank account). After 5 working days, the bank will notify you that the money is available, and you can then decide whether to withdraw it in cash or deposit it into your account. There will be an additional tax to pay for accounts exceeding €5,000.
