Luiss has a joint partnership with Washington College of Law and Fordham School of Law. Students from both institutes have the opportunity to spend one year at Luiss and be registered for the First Level Master in International, Comparative and European Union Law (ICEUL).

The program is aimed at international students interested in advancing their legal knowledge and ability in a stimulating and international environment. Participants will study the multiple dimensions of International Law, Comparative Public and Private Law as well as EU Institutional and Substantive Law. Other topics, such as Introduction to the Italian Legal System, Roman Law, Legal Informatics, Legal Methodology and the History of Law will be offered as well.

Prerequisites

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree, be regularly enrolled in a JD program at their home university and be selected by their school for the program.

Before arrival

After being nominated by their home university, selected students will receive a Welcome email with useful information for their arrival at Luiss and for their enrollment. All non-EU students who have been admitted to any program at Luiss will receive an official invitation letter (after sending their personal information needed to issue the letter to the Welcome Desk), which is to be used when applying for an Italian study visa. 

Selected students will spend their third year of their JD studies at Luiss taking a minimum of 60 ECTS credits (57 ECTS for courses + 3 ECTS for the final thesis), within the conditions required by Luiss to complete the ICEUL program.

Participants will begin their studies at Luiss in the first semester (mid-September) and are expected to complete them by the beginning of May of the following year. Luiss will furthermore work to secure unpaid internships in leading international law firms as well as international organizations for students during their stay.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded a diploma (Master Universitario di Primo Livello) in International, Comparative and EU Law from Luiss and the Juris Doctor from their home university.
