All Summer Schools run for five days, from Monday to Friday.

Can you only attend the Summer Schools in Rome?

How can I apply for a scholarship? What are the criteria, and who should I contact?
There are specific calls for applications for exemptions and scholarships. To find out about the requirements, deadlines, how to apply, and how benefits are awarded, please visit the page on the website.

Where can I find all the information about the financial support offered by the University?
For details on individual calls for scholarships, consult this page on our website or email us ad agevolazionieconomiche@luiss.it or email the Financial Aid tutors financialaid.tutor@luiss.it

I'm a prospective Luiss student. What financial support is available to me?
Each year, the University offers financial support (partial or full exemptions), which is generally awarded through a competitive process. The calls for applications and the corresponding online application forms are published on the following page.

I graduated from secondary school with full marks and honours. Am I entitled to a reduction in the annual single contribution?
Luiss does not offer financial aid based on your secondary school leaving exam grade.

I’m waiting to find out the result of the Luiss admission test. Is it possible to apply for the scholarships that have been announced?
As it may be indicated in the call for scholarships, you can apply for scholarships even if your admission test results have not yet been announced. If you are not admitted, your scholarship application will be excluded from the competition.

Is it possible to apply for two different scholarships?
If you meet the eligibility requirements for multiple competitions, you can submit applications for each one. However, if you are successful in more than one competition, you will need to choose just one scholarship.

What is the procedure for applying for a scholarship?
If you're taking part in a scholarship competition for the first time, click on “Application Form”, then on Log In, and register. Once you've registered, you'll need to log in, complete the application, and submit it.

I’m interested in a call for applications for a scholarship. Do I need to meet the requirements by the call's deadline?
Unless specifically stated otherwise, you must meet all the requirements outlined in the competition notices by the application submission deadline.

The call for applications requires an ISEE certificate. Can I submit a DSU as a temporary measure?
Luiss does not accept expired DSUs or ISEEs. While you await the results of the admission test, we recommend requesting the ISEE certificate that applies to benefits for the right to university study from a CAF (tax assistance centre) or your accountant.

Are there any reductions available for the payment of the annual Single Contribution?
Luiss offers full or partial reductions on the annual Single Contribution for:

  • students who have been awarded a scholarship by the University;
  • students who have a sibling enrolled at Luiss;
  • students who fall into the categories eligible for concessions, as stipulated by current legislation (students with a certified disability percentage of 66% or more, or children of recipients of a work disability pension);
  • unmarried students with children under the age of 6.

I applied for a competition that offers a FULL exemption from the Single Contribution. What is the procedure to follow?
While awaiting the outcome of your scholarship application, you must pay the first instalment of the Single Contribution by the deadlines set by the University. If the scholarship is awarded, the instalmentpaid will be refunded by crediting the student's current account or prepaid card. Payments for subsequent instalments will be automatically cancelled.

I have been granted a PARTIAL exemption from the Single Contribution. How should I proceed with the payments?
The competition notice specifies the instalments for which the partial exemption will apply. As a rule, the partial exemption applies to the second and third instalments, which are recalculated based on the scholarship amount. Therefore, the first instalment must be paid within the deadlines set by Luiss.

Do I need to submit a specific application to confirm my scholarship for the following year?
The requirements for the renewal of the scholarship for the following year of the same University Degree Program are detailed in the call for scholarships. Generally, with some possibile exceptions, in the month of July the offices reviews the merit of all students without the need for them to submit a specific application.

What are the requirements for confirmation?
The requirements are outlined in the competition notice. If the notice requires a certain percentage of credits to be passed (for example, 70%), all exams from previous years must be taken into account, not just those from the final year. The weighted average is shown in the self-service web portal.

Are there scholarships available for students who are already enrolled and demonstrate strong academic performance?
Yes, for the 2026/2027 academic year, Luiss has planned to grant 50 exemptions from the first instalment payment to particularly deserving students. Furthermore, to encourage international mobility, the University provides grants to final-year master’s students to partially cover the costs of preparing their thesis abroad. The calls for applications and the relevant application forms are published on the scholarships page of the website.

Are there any financial benefits for students enrolled on a Luiss Master's programme who are interested in enrolling on a Master's degree course?
As decided by the Luiss Academic Senate, students enrolled on a Level I Master’s degree – who are directly admitted to a Master’s degree course – can benefit from a 50% exemption from the Single Contribution due for enrolment in the second year of the course, provided they achieve all the credits required by the study plan with an average of 28/30 or higher by the end of the first year’s summer exam session. The calculation also includes credits from exams taken during the Master's programme that are recognised for the Master's degree.

If I need information about my scholarship or am struggling with exams and risk not meeting the merit requirement to confirm my scholarship, who can I contact?
The Financial Aid Office offers a tutoring service to support students. If needed, our tutors will liaise with the University tutors and the Academic tutors to provide you with all the support possible. Here you'll find all the contact details for the Financial Aid Tutors and their office hours. Also, remember that the free psychological support offered by Luiss, “Luiss Ti Ascolta”, is always available.

Part-time work

I'm interested in a part-time position. What are the requirements?
Every summer, Luiss holds a competition to award part-time positions at the University’s offices. The work, for a maximum of 200 hours, can be done throughout the academic year and is paid at €8.00 per hour. The ranking is based on merit (CFU credits and weighted average), and in the event of a tie, the student with the lowest ISEE takes precedence.

If I have been awarded a scholarship, can I still apply for a part-time position?
Yes, receiving a scholarship doesn’t prevent you from being offered paid part-time work.

What happens if I decide to give up the part-time position during the year?
You can end the part-time collaboration early. You will be paid based on the number of hours you actually worked and which are certified.

Graduation Award

I would like to apply for a Graduation Award. What are the criteria for writing the abstract?
The abstract can be written in Italian or English and should not exceed 3–4 pages, unless otherwise specified.

For Master's degree programmes, candidates with a Bachelor's degree obtained or to be obtained from another university, as well as those with a degree obtained or to be obtained from Luiss, are eligible to participate.

OFA and self-assessment tests

What are OFAs?

According to ministerial regulations, students enrolled in the first year of a three-year degree course or a single-cycle master's degree must possess certain basic knowledge, which varies depending on the degree course. Therefore, students will need to take a test to assess their skills in specific subjects. Should any gaps emerge, students will need to undertake an additional activity known as an Additional Educational Requirement (OFA).

Undergraduate School Educational Model

Is attendance compulsory?

Yes. Exemption from attendance can only be requested for competitive sports activities recognised by the University.

Can I take the exams online?

No, course exams and the final exam must be taken in person. Exceptions are only allowed for serious and documented illnesses or infirmities, and for other specific personal situations that meet the criteria set out in the ministerial regulations. Furthermore, in the event of temporary emergency situations that prevent the University from conducting in-person examinations, the University itself may establish a remote examination method.

How many exam sessions are there?

For students enrolled in the 2026/2027 and 2025/2026 academic years, across all three-year degree programmes, there will be two exam sessions at the end of the semester in which the course is taught, and one session in each subsequent exam period.

For all students enrolled in the Single-Cycle Master's Degree in Law, there are three exam sessions at the end of the semester in which the course is delivered, three in each subsequent session, and one in the autumn session.

What is a midterm?

A midterm is an interim assessment scheduled during the semester to evaluate the knowledge students have acquired so far.

When will the midterm take place?

For students enrolled in the 2026/2027 and 2025/2026 academic years on three-year degree courses, the midterms for each module (excluding language courses) will take place during the week when classes are suspended. Specifically, the weeks when classes are suspended will be as follows:

  • From 19 to 24 October 2026 in the first semester.
  • From 8 to 13 March 2027 in the second semester.

What happens if I don't take the midterm?

The student will be assessed during the scheduled exam sessions with a single individual test that counts for 100% of the final grade.

Can I reject my midterm grade?

Yes, you can reject your midterm grade and choose to take the full exam during the exam session.

How long can I keep my midterm grade?

For the exam session in which the course is taught and the two subsequent resit sessions:

  • For first-semester courses: the winter session, the summer session, and the autumn session of the relevant academic year.
  • For second-semester courses: the summer, autumn, and winter sessions of the relevant academic year.

Can I reject my final exam grade?

No, students enrolled in the 2026/2027 and 2025/2026 academic years cannot refuse the grade they receive in a final exam. However, students have the option to withdraw from the exam before it ends.

For students who, in the 2026/2027 academic year, are enrolled in years beyond the second year or are students who have exceeded the standard duration of their course, the rules of engagement for their year of enrolment apply.

Can I withdraw during the final exam?
Yes, but only before the end of the exam itself.

If I withdraw during the first sitting of the exam session, can I retake the exam during the second sitting of the same session?
Yes.

How does withdrawing from a written exam work?
You can withdraw from a written exam by handing in your paper before the end of the exam, stating your intention to withdraw, and ensuring the lecturer records your withdrawal.

How does withdrawing from an oral exam work?
You can withdraw from the oral exam before it ends and, in any case, before the lecturer has given a mark out of thirty. Make sure the lecturer records your withdrawal.

Can I request to view the written exam?
You always have the right to view a written exam paper, within the timeframe and in the manner specified by the lecturer. This does not affect the fact that students enrolled in the 2026/2027 and 2025/2026 academic years cannot refuse their grade.

<p >For students who enrolled in previous academic years, the rules for their year of enrolment will apply, except for subjects they have not yet completed (this also applies to students who transfer in or participate in international exchanges, such as double degrees and structured partnerships).

The new rule will be based on the year in which the course was delivered until all previous cohorts have completed their studies.

For exams in courses that are no longer offered from the 2025/2026 academic year, the previous rules apply.

I’m a master’s student. How many exam sessions will I have to take the final exam?
There are two exam sessions during the semester in which the course is taught. In subsequent sessions, there will be one exam sitting.

Are interim assessments compulsory?
All degree programmes at the Graduate School use continuous assessment, which involves various methods of ongoing evaluation.
For more information on the type of assessment, please refer to the syllabus or contact the individual faculty members.

When do the interim assessments take place?
As there are no compulsory interim tests, there will be no dedicated week for taking them, nor will there be any suspension of the relevant teaching. Any ongoing assessments may be organised at the faculty's sole discretion. The faculty will specify the methods and content in the syllabus and during the course.

Exams

How do I know if there are any prerequisites for my course of study?
Any prerequisites that apply to your enrolment cohort are listed on this page
If the prerequisite exam is not passed, recorded, and registered in the student’s academic record, the first exam taken will be cancelled by Rector’s Decree, as the required prerequisite has not been met.

I have to take an exam but I haven’t taken the related prerequisite exam yet. Can I still take it?
With the exception of the Law degree programme (where compliance with prerequisites will also be enforced within the same exam session), it is possible to take two exams, one a prerequisite for the other, within the same session, even in reverse order. However, if you fail the prerequisite exam and this is recorded and registered in your academic record, the first exam you took will be cancelled by Rector’s Decree, as the required prerequisite has not been met.

Language Courses

Where can I view the level I achieved at the end of the first semester of 2025/2026?
You can view your language level at the end of the first semester of 2025/2026 in your Web Self-service. For intermediate levels (where the course is still ongoing), go to the section “Carriera > Atti di Carriera”. For final levels, go to the section “Iscrizione/Certificati > Autodichiarazioni > Autodichiarazione iscrizione livello lingue”. In both sections, you’ll find a downloadable self-declaration template – in both Italian and English – which indicates the language level you’ve achieved (if applicable).

How can I find out which language group I'll be assigned to in the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic year?
The University Language Centre will email you details about your group or any placement tests (if applicable) from the end of January, giving you plenty of time before your first lesson. The email will be sent to your Luiss email account – @studenti.luiss.it – and will specify your group, the class time, the teaching method (online/in-person), the classroom, and the campus where the course will take place. As soon as you receive the email, you’ll also be able to view the details of your language course in the Luiss app.

Will the language courses be held in person?
In the second semester of 2025/2026, the “elective” language courses on Saturday mornings will be held in person at the Luiss campuses. Midweek courses, on the other hand, will be held online, with the exception of Arabic, Chinese, and Russian courses, as well as language classes for which the curriculum includes a 30-point exam in May–June 2026. For more information, please visit the “Language Courses” page.

How can I regain language proficiency?
If you need to retake the language proficiency test, you can take the written and oral exams at the relevant institute by following the instructions sent to your Luiss email account (@studenti.luiss.it) in December. When booking with the Institute (by phone or email), you can arrange a date during the winter session, which runs from 7 January to 31 January 2026. You can also retake the language proficiency test in subsequent exam sessions as scheduled in the academic calendar.

Which Luiss office provides support to international students before they arrive in Rome?
The Welcome Desk Office is located on the Viale Romania Campus. You can contact the Welcome Desk by emailing welcomedesk@luiss.it or calling +39 068522 5770

What paperwork can you contact the Welcome Desk about?
The Welcome Desk provides support with the following procedures:

  • requesting an invitation letter to obtain a study visa;
  • applying for a study visa to enter Italy;
  • applying for or renewing a residence permit for study purposes;
  • applying for a tax code;
  • health insurance and registration with the Italian National Health Service;
  • opening a bank account in Italy;
  • registration with the Registry Office of the Municipality of Rome.

Does Luiss offer support in completing the procedure to obtain a study visa to travel to Italy?
Once the enrolment process is complete and the first instalment has been paid (this does not apply to scholarship students), international students will receive an email from the Welcome Desk with all the necessary information regarding the paperwork (visa, health insurance, etc.) that needs to be completed before arriving in Italy.
Students can then request an invitation letter from the Welcome Desk (by email: welcomedesk@luiss.it), which they can present to the Italian Embassy or Consulate in their home country to apply for a study visa.
If issues arise and upon the student’s specific request, the Welcome Desk may, where possible, contact the Embassy or Consulate where the application was submitted to support the student’s visa request.
Once in Italy, all students will receive support from the Welcome Desk Office to complete the paperwork and apply for a residence permit for study purposes. The application for a residence permit must be submitted within 8 working days of arrival in Italy (including Saturdays).

What is the procedure to follow if you come from a country outside the European Union, are enrolled on a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree course, and want to obtain a study visa to enter Italy?
You can find detailed information on the procedure for obtaining a study visa by visiting the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Each student should check whether a visa is required and, if so, ensure they review the documents needed for the application. It will be essential to contact the Italian Embassy or Consulate in your home country for further details.

The student must send a copy of their passport, along with the name of their degree course, and indicate the Embassy or Consulate where they will apply for a visa, to welcomedesk@luiss.it. This will allow Luiss to send a formal invitation letter for the visa application. To ensure everything runs smoothly, it's essential to register on the UniversItaly portal.  Once the process is complete and Luiss has confirmed admission, the Italian Embassy/Consulate will receive a notification to assess the student’s visa application.
For more information, please visit the website.

What should I do if my visa application is denied?
If your visa is not issued, we recommend contacting the Welcome Desk Office by emailing welcomedesk@luiss.it. We remind you to request an official communication from the Embassy or Consulate regarding the visa refusal, which you should share with the Admissions Office and the Welcome Desk.

What welcome activities does Luiss organise for international students?
Luiss organises welcome sessions, both online and in person, to provide useful information about the university, administrative procedures (such as applying for a residence permit and a tax code), the Italian university system, and life in Rome.
Before arrival and after pre-registration, the Welcome Desk will contact students to invite them to “Get Ready 4 Luiss!”: a series of online meetings where they can get all the information they need to organise their arrival in Italy in the best possible way.
Once they arrive in Italy, incoming international students will also be invited to attend information sessions during Freshers’ Week.

What kind of support does the Luiss Tutoring Service offer students?

  3. The services offered by the University.
  4. Italian culture and living in Rome.

Luiss Buddy Programme – Peer tutoring for Luiss students
