Students who hold a foreign second-cycle degree and are interested in obtaining an Italian university degree can request an assessment for admission via a shortened course of study. This allows them to take additional exams to cover the part of the curriculum not covered by their foreign degree, leading to the issuance of an Italian degree.

As per ministerial guidelines, the foreign qualification must meet the following criteria:

•           be an official second-cycle degree from the relevant foreign system, issued by an official academic institution recognized by that system;

•           allow admission to the same first- or second-cycle programs within the relevant foreign system and/or confer the same academic rights;

•           have the same nature and subject matter as the corresponding Italian degree;

•           be comparable to an Italian degree in terms of both type and field of study, and be consistent with the content of the degree program the applicant wishes to enroll in.

There is no procedure for issuing the Equivalence of a foreign academic qualification, so please refer to the competent authorities.

The competent body will review pre-application requests for course shortening, and applicants will be notified of the outcome via email within approximately 15 business days.

The competent body makes decisions on a case-by-case basis, ensuring compliance with the minimum curricular requirements for admission to master’s degree programs. These decisions are based on the submitted documentation, the student’s admission, the year of enrollment, and the recognition of credits, in accordance with the objectives outlined in the relevant Academic Regulations.

Upon recognition of the exams, the number of credits specified by the Luiss degree program is awarded. If the credits do not match, the competent body may assess the alignment of the programs and, if necessary, request that a supplementary exam be taken. The content of this exam will be agreed upon with the course instructor on a case-by-case basis.

Please note that exams will only be recognized as validated (without a grade). It is understood that any validated exams will not be considered when calculating the weighted average.

Those concerned will be notified of the outcome and must confirm their acceptance or rejection of the proposed recognition within 7 days of receiving the notification.

Upon acceptance, applicants will receive the necessary instructions to enroll and pay the required fee for the academic year to which they have been admitted.

You will be notified of the outcome via the email address provided on the course abbreviation pre-application. You'll need to reply to the email, confirming your intent to enroll and accepting the proposal for exam recognition. You will then receive an email with instructions on how to enroll and pay the required Single Fee.

If the qualification has not been obtained, it must be obtained no later than November 9, 2026; otherwise, the abbreviated procedure cannot be completed.

Admission will be contingent upon submitting the required documentation to verify that the relevant qualifications meet the criteria for enrollment in a master’s degree program in Italy, as per current regulations. Please note that it is the student's responsibility to verify in advance the validity of their credentials for admission to the chosen program, the recognition of their home university by the foreign authorities, and any requirements related to obtaining a visa.

Please note that Italian or foreign academic credentials that do not comply with the guidelines and are not accompanied by the required documentation will not, under any circumstances, allow enrollment at the university, even if the student is admitted and subsequently registers to attend.

The abbreviation will only be finalized once the student has completed all the required steps for enrollment.

You will only be able to start attending classes after completing the course registration.

Following the interruption, the first available session for taking exams and/or completing any additional requirements will be the Winter Session of the relevant academic year (starting in December).
