Incoming transfer

Incoming transfer

To transfer from another university to Luiss Guido Carli for the 2026/2027 academic year, you must submit a preliminary transfer application. This can be completed online  from June 8 to July 20, 2026, following the instructions provided below.

What are the requirements for transferring from an Italian university?

Students currently enrolled at  another recognized university may apply for a transfer, provided that the curriculum of the degree program they are enrolled in at Luiss recognizes at least:

  • 24 ECTS credits  with a weighted average of 27/30, for enrollment in the second year of a three-year degree program or the second year as a repeat student.
  • 90 ECTS credits  with a weighted average of 27/30, for enrollment in the third year of a bachelor's degree program

In addition to the above requirements, students must have:

  • A valid English language proficiency certificate at a minimum B2 level for students interested in transferring to a Luiss program taught in English and who are enrolled in programs taught in a language other than English;
  • A certificate from the university confirming that the course is taught in English, for students who have completed English-taught programs at an Italian or foreign university and are interested in courses taught in English;
  • A valid certificate of Italian language proficiency at a minimum B2 level  for students who are not Italian citizens and are interested in transferring to a Luiss program taught in Italian.

The educational offerings and curricula for Luiss's bachelor's degree programs are available on the Undergraduate School's website.

What are the requirements for transferring from a foreign university?

Students who have completed study periods abroad and taken exams as part of an active course of study, where they are formally enrolled in a program (without having obtained the final degree), and who have taken exams, may request an evaluation of their course of study for admission to a year subsequent to the first year of a three-year degree program, with the aim of having credits recognized. The minimum admission requirement is essentially the same as that established for transfers from Italian universities in the second or third year (as outlined in the section “What are the requirements for transferring from an Italian university?” and as per the approved Academic Schedule). The following criteria will also be taken into consideration:

  • The student must hold a valid Italian or foreign (EU or non-EU) high school diploma for admission to Luiss in the first year.
  • The home university where the exams were taken must be an officially recognized academic institution within the relevant foreign system;
  • The degree program from which the student is transferring and the exams taken must be relevant and consistent with the content and educational objectives of the program in which the student wishes to enroll.

  • Students from foreign universities must have their transcript of records legalized with an apostille by the relevant authorities.
  • Pre-application forms that lack complete or compliant documentation will not be considered under any circumstances.

No, there is no fee to pay when submitting the pre-application for an inbound transfer.

The competent body will review incoming transfer pre-applications, and applicants will be notified of the outcome via email within approximately 15 business days.

The competent body decides, on a case-by-case basis and based on the submitted documentation, on admission, the year of enrollment, and the recognition of credits, ensuring consistency with the objectives outlined in the relevant Academic Regulations.

Upon recognition of the exams, the number of credits specified in the Luiss degree program is awarded. If the credits do not match, the competent body may assess the alignment of the programs and, if necessary, request that a supplementary exam be taken. The content of this exam will be agreed upon with the course instructor on a case-by-case basis.

Please note that for students from foreign universities only, exams will be recognized as validated (without a grade). It is understood that any validated exams will not be considered when calculating the weighted average.

Please note that in the event of a double enrollment in the same year of the program or enrollment as a repeating student, no bonus will be awarded upon graduation.

Those concerned will be notified of the outcome and must confirm their acceptance or rejection of the recognition proposal within 7 days of receiving it.

Upon acceptance, the interested parties will receive the necessary instructions to complete their enrollment and pay the required amount for the academic year to which they have been admitted.

  • Students from an Italian university: Those who have received a positive outcome and accepted the recognition proposal, provided they have completed their exams at their home university by September 5, 2026 at the latest, must gather all the necessary information from their university's administrative office to verify the timeline and procedures for submitting an outgoing transfer application. Only after the outgoing transfer application is submitted will the home university send the Certificate of Leave to Luiss via certified email to segreteria.studenti@luisscert.it. Without this certificate, enrollment at Luiss will not be possible.

  • Students from foreign universities: Those who have received a positive outcome and accepted the recognition proposal, provided they have completed their exams at their home university by September 5, 2026 at the latest, must submit the original documentation to the Student Affairs Office. The aforementioned foreign documentation issued by non-Italian universities, entities, or authorities, if in a language other than Italian or English, must be translated by a sworn translator listed by the local Embassy and legalized by the competent authorities (for more information, please refer to the guidelines from the relevant local diplomatic authorities). For foreign qualifications, students must first verify the validity of their credentials for admission to the chosen program, the recognition of their home university by the foreign authorities, and any requirements related to visa issuance.

You will only be able to start attending classes once the transfer process is finalized, which will occur only after we receive and verify the Leave of Absence sent by your home university.

Following the transfer, the first available session for taking exams and/or completing any additional requirements will be the Winter Session of the relevant academic year (starting in December).

No, transfers to degree programs at Luiss Guido Carli are only possible at the start of the academic year, and there is no provision for admission in the middle of the year or semester.

Certifications should be sent to the email address segreteria@luiss.it, and interested students will be contacted by the University's Tutor Office. For more details, you can contact tutorato@luiss.it.
