Graduation exam
Bachelor's Degree Programs
The final exam for undergraduate programs involves the assessment of a written paper in Italian and/or a foreign language. The topic must be related to a course in which the graduating student has taken an exam or obtained recognition/validation, excluding seminars, language courses, courses that require a pass/fail assessment, all courses with a grade that doesn’t count toward the GPA, and elective courses.
There are three graduation sessions in an academic year: Summer (generally June/July), Fall (generally October/November), and the Make-up session (generally March/April).
Below, you'll find the administrative deadlines for the graduation sessions. The University reserves the right to change the specified deadlines based on educational and logistical needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
You can choose a topic from the various courses for which you have taken exams or obtained recognition/validation, excluding seminars, language courses, courses that require a pass/fail assessment, all courses with grades excluded from the grade point average, and elective courses. The topic is agreed upon with faculty members who are (or have been) the course instructors for the chosen course, or who are otherwise experts in the subject, and who, at the time of the request, are tenured or contract faculty at the University. The advisor will be responsible for the work performed.
If you are participating in Double Degree Programs, Structured Partnerships, or International Exchanges, or if you intend to request a thesis in a course held abroad and recognized in your academic record with its original title—even if not offered at Luiss, as long as it is consistent with the educational objectives of the program—you will need to check the feasibility with the International Development Office (international@luiss.it) in the first case, or with the Student Office (segreteria@luiss.it) in the second case.

Once entered and confirmed, the data cannot be changed, except for the thesis title, which can be slightly modified when uploading the file.
The graduation application will be considered valid only after the Advisor approves it through their Web Self Service, following the timeline the Student Office will directly communicate to the Advisor, and only after the payment of the graduation fee is visible online.
If the advisor does not approve the graduation application, the graduation fee is not paid, or the badge and booklet are not returned (the latter point applies only to students enrolled before the 2015/2016 academic year), the student will be excluded from the graduation session.
Log in to Web Self Service, click on the menu in the top right corner, and then select “Esame di Laurea” (Graduation Exam). You can only do this during the periods indicated in the calendar with the administrative deadlines.

Also, review the University’s rules on plagiarism.
Before uploading, make sure the file is readable and compatible with the Windows operating system.
Upload the final paper as a single PDF file, with a maximum size of 15 MB. There is no requirement to submit any paper documentation. The upload can only be done once during the process’s open period and will be considered the sole, final file.
After the upload deadline, the Advisor will approve or reject the file you uploaded through their Web Self Service.
The digital copy of the thesis will be stored in this University’s computerized archive, in compliance with the security measures outlined in the Personal Data Protection Code. It will be accessible for administrative and scientific purposes, where permitted, only by authorized individuals, following the same rules that apply to consultation. Random checks will be conducted on the uploaded file.
Failure to upload the final paper within the specified periods, or lack of approval from the Advisor, will result in exclusion from the graduation session.
For details regarding margins, line spacing, and the font to be used, please refer to the instructions provided by the advisor and the Stylistic Guidelines for the Final Paper/Guidelines for Sustainable Printing of Theses and Documents.
You can choose to withdraw from the graduation session by clicking on “Withdraw from the session” under the Graduation Exam section of the Web Self Service. You can find your graduation grade only by logging into the Web Self Service and navigating to the Graduation Exam section. The announcement and presentation of the Degree Diploma will take place during the Graduation Day ceremony.
