Curriculum: guidelines for completion
You must complete your study plan exclusively online via the Web Self Service during the periods specified for your degree program, course year, and enrollment year. Outside of these periods, you cannot make selections or change any you've already made.
If you don’t make your selections or confirm them via the Web Self Service by the specified deadlines, a default study plan will be assigned to you, and you won’t be able to change it.
Before logging into Web Self Service, we recommend carefully reading the table below, paying attention to your degree program and the year of study you are in:
Students who plan to graduate by the Special Session of the 2025/2026 academic year (March–April 2027) cannot make any changes to their curriculum or add elective courses.
Those who have completed their final year of study and are about to enroll as a student extending their studies beyond the standard timeframe for the 2026/2027 academic year, and who wish to modify their study plan, must enroll as a “repeating” student for the 2026/2027 academic year by submitting a specific request to the Student Affairs Office.
PLEASE NOTE
For information regarding the “International exchange programs with European countries (Erasmus+) and non-European countries” and the “Double Degree and Structured Partnership Programs” for the 2026/2027 academic year, please refer to the dedicated pages:
REQUEST FOR ADVANCE PAYMENT FOR ACTIVE COURSES AND EXAMS
The Luiss Academic Senate, in its meeting on April 27, 2021, established the following:
Students enrolled in single-cycle master's degree programs may, starting from the second semester of the first year, take up to one course early per semester, provided they are current on their previous exams (including any courses for which they have already requested to take early in previous semesters) and have a weighted average of 27/30 (no rounding is allowed).
Students enrolled in the fourth year of their program may take up to two courses early in the first semester and one course early in the second semester, provided they have completed all prior exams (including any courses for which early completion was requested in previous semesters) and have a weighted average of 27/30 (no rounding is allowed).
The Undergraduate School Council may consider requests from particularly deserving students enrolled in the third and fourth years who meet the aforementioned requirements to move up additional exams or proficiency assessments beyond those already scheduled.
The request to move up a course must be submitted before the start of the semester in which the course is taught. The application should be sent via email to the Student Affairs Office and must be approved in time for the student to attend classes, while also ensuring all prerequisites are met.
Rules for completing the study plan - Academic Year 2026/2027
The choices made in June 2026 pertain to the 2026/2027 academic year. Therefore, the study plan will be activated and visible on the Web Self Service upon enrollment for this academic year, following the deadline for the first installment of the single fee (July 22, 2026).
To make an informed choice, please refer to the Undergraduate School's Guide to Completing Study Plans for lists of available courses and syllabi.
Those enrolled in the fourth year for the 2025/2026 academic year who wish to change their course of study (profile) must register as a “repeater” in the fourth year for the 2026/2027 academic year by submitting a specific request via email to the Student Affairs Office.
If a course or chosen track is not activated, the Student Affairs Office will contact those who need to make a new selection, following a schedule that will be communicated.
Elective courses (June 2026)
For elective courses, there is a maximum limit on the number of students who can enroll in each course. Once this limit is reached, the message “Places filled” will appear next to the course. While students are putting together their study plans, this information may change if someone who had previously selected a course decides not to take it, making that course available again. Therefore, it’s advisable to periodically check the availability of the course you’re interested in—no later than the set deadline—if you were initially unable to select it due to a lack of spots.
Additional skills beneficial for entering the workforce
To make an informed choice and for information on available activities and possible combinations, please refer to the Other Educational Activities section of the Undergraduate School.
Language courses
To make an informed choice and for information on language courses, please refer to the University Language Center's dedicated page.
PLEASE NOTE
- If core courses, electives, other activities, or language courses are already part of your academic record (due to recognition of exams from a transfer from another university, a change of program, a shortened program, a master's degree, exams already taken during a mobility program, or taking courses early, etc.), they must be confirmed by completing the study plan. It is not possible to select other courses or take other exams to replace what has already been recognized or completed.
- A course already taken as an elective course cannot, under any circumstances, be counted toward the credits required to obtain the degree (core, specialization, or elective courses, or other educational activities).
- Students who plan to take and complete one or more core and/or elective courses while studying abroad as part of a Double Degree, LLM, International Exchange Program, Free Mover Program, or Summer School must select the generic items Core Abroad and/or Elective Abroad. If taken, the exam will be entered and recorded in the student’s academic record, and the number of credits will be awarded as per the student’s curriculum for core/elective courses. Please note that the courses must already be approved as per the procedures outlined in each mobility program. For information about mobility programs>. If you fail the core and/or elective exam abroad, you must notify the Student Affairs Office of the exam you intend to take at Luiss. This exam must exclusively replace Core Abroad and/or Elective Abroad and be selected from the list of active courses. For electives, the maximum number of choices must not have already been reached.
ELECTIVE COURSES (JULY 2026)
You can add up to two courses to your study plan as free courses. This choice is not mandatory and can only be made via the Web Self Service in July 2026, within the registration window communicated by the Student Affairs Office.
If these courses are listed as free courses for your degree program, they will affect your weighted average out of thirty, regardless of the grade you receive (see also Criteria for assigning the degree grade).
This option is reserved for students who, for the 2026/2027 academic year, are enrolled in:
- in the fourth year of the single-cycle master's degree program in Law. They can add up to a maximum of two courses to their study plan as free courses;
- in the fifth year of the single-cycle master's degree program in Law. They can modify or add to the elective courses chosen in the fourth year, provided they have not yet been taken, up to a maximum of two elective courses.
To make an informed choice, please refer to the Undergraduate School's Guide to Completing Study Plans for lists of available courses and syllabi.
It's important to know that:
- Adding elective courses to your study plan is not mandatory , as the associated credits (CFU) do not count toward the total credits required to earn your degree.
- You cannot add more than two elective courses from those offered for your degree program and viewable through Web Self Service.
- the grade earned in an elective course—if it's part of the list of courses offered as electives for your degree program—affects the weighted average in thirtieths;
- If you don't take an elective course, you can remove it from your curriculum by sending a request to the Student Affairs Office via email.
- You cannot request a thesis in a course taken as an elective.
- A course already taken as an elective cannot, under any circumstances, be counted toward the credits required to earn the degree (core, specialization, elective, or other coursework).
You can request the inclusion of “off-list” elective courses (those not listed as electives for your degree program) by sending an email request to the Student Affairs Office. If you take the exam, the grade will not affect the calculation of your weighted average in any way.
