Admission to Bachelor's Degrees and Single-Cycle Master's Degrees in Law
Admission to Master's degree programmes follows a different procedure from that for undergraduate degrees, with pathways that vary according to the candidate's profile.
Who is eligible to apply?
Graduates with a three-year degree from any Italian or foreign university are eligible to apply. Participation is conditional on meeting the minimum academic requirements that are consistent with the chosen course. If these requirements are not met, they must be made up through ECTS credits, usually by November. Candidates from other universities cannot complete this make-up at Luiss itself.
Structure of the Master's degree test
Unlike the undergraduate test, the master's test varies by subject area and is not a single, standardised test. Candidates may select up to two courses as their first and second choices, both within the same Subject Area:
- Economics Subject Area
- Political Science and Law
Available routes of admission
- Luiss Master's Admissions Test
- GMAT or GRE (direct admission for students currently enrolled at a university in Italy, regardless of their nationality)
- Route reserved for Luiss undergraduates and graduates: dedicated internal procedure; curricular requirements are always met.
Exception: Finance and Management
The Master's Degree Programmes in Finance and Management are governed by a separate call for applications, with different deadlines and criteria. For these two courses, admission is granted solely on the basis of a GMAT or GRE score; the standard Luiss test is not required. The call for applications is open to both EU and non-EU candidates. Direct entry for Luiss graduates requires a weighted average of at least 28/30 (compared to 26/30 for all other Master's courses).

Who is it for?
This pathway is reserved for students who are citizens of an EU country or a Schengen Area country and who have obtained — or are due to obtain by July — an upper secondary school diploma that is valid for admission to Italian universities.
Which certifications are accepted?
SAT – 1,200 (out of 1,600)
LSAT – 160 (out of 180)
ACT – 25 (out of 36)
IB – Predicted grade 36 (out of 45)
The call for applications will be published in October.
Luiss verifies the scores directly on the certifying body's platform. The candidate must grant Luiss permission to view the official score before the deadline.
How do you submit an application?
- Fill in the online form on the Luiss admissions portal
- Upload your identity document and certification
- Pay the participation fee of €150.00 for the 2027/28 academic year, although this amount is subject to change from year to year (the fee is non-refundable).
- Wait for the result to be sent by email (approximately 2 weeks after submission)
Are there any dedicated scholarships?

Early admission to Luiss degree programmes through the Summer School
If you want to pass the Luiss admission test for an undergraduate or master's degree, you need to base your study plan on three key pillars: official mock tests, logical reasoning, and time management.
Where to find the official Luiss mock tests and resources
- For Bachelor's Degrees: theoretical handouts, exercises, and in-depth sessions explaining possible strategies for solving the questions are available after registering for the test.
- For Master's Degrees: online exercises and in-depth sessions that explain possible strategies for solving the questions, accessible after registration
The official online mock tests are only accessible once you have registered for the test, which is linked to the deadlines set out in the announcement.
When do the test sessions for Bachelor's degrees and single-cycle Master's degrees take place?
There are two timeframes: the winter session (February–March) and the spring session (April–May).
When does the Master's degree test session take place?
There is only one time window: the spring session (April–May).
What is the minimum score required for admission?
There is no fixed minimum score. Admission depends on your position in the ranking relative to the number of places available. Exception: A minimum score of 60/100 is required to take the early test for the Orientation 4 Summer School.
Are there any summer preparation programmes?
Yes. The Luiss Summer School Orientation 4 and the Graduate Summer School include test preparation sessions, with the option to take the test early on the Friday of the programme.

Orientatio 4 for secondary school students
Yes, it is possible to transfer to Luiss from another university, but the procedure is subject to strict academic criteria, specific application windows, and an assessment of your previous academic record. Transfers take place solely at the start of the academic year.
When should you submit an application to transfer to Luiss?
The online application must be submitted during the window that typically runs from early June to mid-July. Applications submitted outside this window will not be considered.
What are the minimum requirements for admission?
Students currently enrolled at another university may transfer to a year subsequent to the first year of a three-year bachelor's degree or a single-cycle master's degree, with their credits being recognised. For admission to the second year, for example, you must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Recognisable credits — at least 24 ECTS credits that can be validated and are consistent with the curriculum of the chosen Luiss course
- A minimum weighted average of 27/30 in the exams taken at the student's previous university
- Current student status — not an extended-study student — at the home university
- Diploma valid for admission to Luiss in the first year (Italian or foreign, EU or non-EU)
If fewer than 24 credits can be recognised, or if the average is below 27/30, enrolment in the second year will be declined.
How are exams taken at other universities recognised?
The relevant Luiss body makes decisions on a case-by-case basis, based on the documentation submitted, regarding admission, the year of enrolment, and the recognition of ECTS credits. These decisions are guided by the principle of consistency with the objectives set out in the corresponding Academic Regulations. Exams that cannot be recognised will need to be taken as part of the new programme.
What happens if you come from a foreign university?
Students who have completed periods of study abroad and have taken exams as part of an active course of study, during which they were properly enrolled, may request an assessment of their academic record for the purpose of admission to a year beyond the first. The minimum requirement is the same as that for transfers from Italian universities. The student's home university must be an official academic institution recognised within the relevant foreign system. The degree programme the student is transferring from must be relevant and have the same content and educational objectives.
For courses taught in English, an official certificate from the student's home university is required, confirming that the examinations were indeed conducted in English.
And what about Master's degree courses?
For Master's degree programmes, there is no transfer in the strict sense: admission is only possible through the standard Master's selection procedure, which is open to graduates from any Italian or foreign university.

Costs and financial support: fees, the Single Contribution, scholarships
At Luiss Guido Carli, the university fees – known as the Single Contribution – are a fixed annual amount that does not vary based on ISEE income, unlike at public universities. The cost varies depending on the type of course and the academic year.
How much is the Single Fee? (Academic Year 2027/2028)
- Bachelor's Degrees and Single-Cycle Master's Degrees in Law: €15,000 per year
- Master's Degrees (all courses, except Finance and Management): €16,000 per year
- Master's Degrees in Finance and Management: €18,000 per year (with a dedicated call for applications and admissions procedure)
How do you pay the Single Fee?
Payments must be made from your personal Web Self Service page via the institutional PagoPA platform, in the Enrolment > Payments > Payments to be made section. The payment is divided into 3 annual instalments.
For Master's programmes, the first instalment usually needs to be paid by mid-June.
What additional costs should be taken into account?
In addition to the Single Fee, the following compulsory charges apply:
- Admission test: €150 (non-refundable test registration fee, subject to change from year to year)
- Regional fee: approximately €140–200 per year, allocated to the Lazio Region's student support fund (subject to change from year to year)
- Graduation fee: Approximately €200–250, to be paid when submitting the final-year application.
Are there any concessions available for the Single Fee?
Yes. Since the 2016/2017 academic year, a 20% reduction in the Single Fee has been available, upon the student's request, when siblings are enrolled in the same academic year at the same time. The reduction is applied to the fees for the younger sibling.
Scholarships based on merit and income are also available and can cover the Single Fee either partially or in full — with over 2,000 scholarships awarded each year.
Find out more
No. The tuition fee at Luiss Guido Carli – known as the Single Contribution – is a fixed amount and does not vary based on ISEE income or the family's financial circumstances. This is one of the ways in which Luiss stands out from Italian public universities, where the fee is instead adjusted according to income brackets.
How does the Luiss contribution system work?
The University's contribution system is described as "single" because it does not involve any division into income bands. Enrolment for the academic year is conditional on paying the annual Single Contribution fee, together with the regional fee for the right to university education.
All students enrolled on the same type of course pay the same amount, regardless of their family's income.
How can a student from a low-income background gain access to Luiss?
Luiss makes up for the lack of ISEE income brackets with a structured system of scholarships and financial aid, which each year enables thousands of deserving students – regardless of their income – to reduce or eliminate the Single Fee.
Yes. Luiss Guido Carli offers numerous scholarships, partial or full exemptions from paying the Single Fee, and other financial benefits, available to both prospective students and those who are already enrolled.
What types of scholarships are available at Luiss?
The opportunities available vary depending on the student's profile and course of study:
- Prospective students — Bachelor's Degrees and Single-Cycle Master's Degrees in Law: Scholarships are available for outstanding students admitted through SAT, ACT, or IB qualifications, as well as for those admitted via the Luiss Test.
- Prospective students — Master's Degrees: Full or partial fee waivers are available for students admitted via the entrance test, direct admission (based on academic average or from a Luiss Master's programme), GMAT or GRE scores, or international selection.
- Currently enrolled students: There are specific benefits and grants available for preparing a thesis abroad.
- Sports scholarships: for student athletes in the Luiss Top Athletes and Luiss Team categories.
- DiSCo Lazio Scholarship: A regional scholarship based on ISEE income, which can provide full exemption from the Single Fee plus a cash grant. The calls for applications are published annually between late May and early June.
- Other forms of support: The University also offers interest-free loans and "specific concessions" for students who are already enrolled, such as inclusion services.
How do you get a scholarship at Luiss?
For each type of scholarship, a dedicated call for applications is published, setting out the eligibility criteria, deadlines, and application procedures. To find out the latest criteria and submit your application, you should consult the individual calls for applications on the Luiss website or contact the Financial Aid Office: agevolazionieconomiche@luiss.it
Scholarships for prospective students – Master's Degrees

Yes. Luiss offers a 20% reduction on the Single Fee for families with more than one child enrolled at the University in the same academic year. The discount applies to Bachelor's degree programmes, Master's degree programmes, and single-cycle Master's degree programmes.
How does the reduction work?
- Who it applies to: The 20% reduction applies only to the tuition fee for the younger child.
- When it takes effect: the benefit is not calculated on the first instalment, but on the instalments following the first one.
- How to activate it: The discount doesn't apply automatically — the student must explicitly request it.
How do you apply for it?
A newly enrolled student – who has siblings already registered in years after the first – should contact the Student Office by sending a request to the email address: segreteria@luiss.it
