Orto Luiss
Since 2014, the Orto Luiss has been an open space for students, faculty, administrative staff, volunteers from local associations, children from neighborhood schools, and the community. Its goal is to foster social interaction and serve as a place where collaborations and initiatives come to life, and where nature, well-being, sustainability, and learning coexist.
By working in the Orto Luiss, people of all ages, with different backgrounds and characteristics, rediscover the value of connecting with nature, find their way back to natural food, and discover a functional lifestyle in harmony with the environment. Participants engage in gardening activities in the garden, even during shared moments, with the support of a gardener. In the garden, these diverse groups interact while working outdoors in close contact with nature. Here, differences in age, background, and personal stories fade away, creating unique opportunities for collaboration and cross-pollination. This fosters a participatory community model that benefits both individuals and the environment.
The produce from the Orto Luiss is distributed among those who care for the space and, therefore, participate in the entire cycle of growing the plants and producing the crops, from planting to harvesting. For all participants, the harvest is a significant and formative moment that encapsulates the care and dedication they’ve put in throughout the year, and restores a sense of the natural, seasonal cycle of the crops.
