Waste management at Luiss
With the aim of reducing the University’s environmental impact and promoting more sustainable lifestyles, Luiss is launching a project dedicated to improving waste management on its campuses.
The initiative combines structural measures with efforts to engage the university community, aiming to reduce the amount of non-recyclable waste and promote proper waste sorting.
Structural measures for separate waste collection
The project includes a series of concrete actions that make waste separation simpler, more intuitive, and more effective:
- streamlining outdoor collection points by introducing new multi-fraction bins;
- introducing organic waste collection in some outdoor areas used for meal consumption;
- installation of new smoking points for recycling cigarette butts;
- selling water exclusively in recycled and recyclable plastic bottles and installing special compactors.
These measures are designed to improve the quality of waste collection and encourage proper behavior on campus.
Digital tools for proper waste collection
Along with structural changes, Luiss is introducing a range of interactive aids that will help the university community properly dispose of waste and develop sustainable habits.
Specifically, interactive panels have been installed on campus that:
- provide guidance on proper waste sorting by scanning the item, as needed;
- offer short, three-question quizzes to reinforce learning and allow users to win prizes that will be integrated with the Lockbox system, demonstrating a real, ongoing commitment to sustainable behavior.
By answering exactly 2 out of 3 questions in the quizzes, a QR code will automatically open. By scanning it, users will be directed to the Lockbox app, where they can see their virtual coins increase. To redeem them correctly, make sure you have the latest updated version of the Lockbox app!
