Arts and Crafts Workshops

Arts and Crafts Workshops

For the 2018–2019 academic year, LUISS Guido Carli is offering all its Bachelor's, Master's, and Single-Cycle Degree students the chance to participate, free of charge, in Arts and Crafts Workshops organized in collaboration with Casa della MammaTemple University Rome, and the publishing house Bugs Comics.

The goal is to offer creative and hands-on workshops where you can gain practical skills, have fun, spark your imagination, pick up a new hobby, or hone an existing talent.

The project also offers additional value: the idea is to bring together different organizations, highlighting each one’s strengths, to underscore the value of diversity, collaboration, and cross-pollination. This gives the Arts and Crafts project a broader scope than in the past and an even more significant impact in terms of community support, student education, and stakeholder engagement.

The goal is to blend the themes of creativity, cross-pollination, hands-on work, and pursuing one's passions with the values of ethics, responsibility, and sustainability. At the same time, through hands-on activities, participants will be able to gain real-world experience in organizational skills, develop cross-functional abilities, and engage in genuine interaction and cross-pollination of ideas, experiences, and diverse backgrounds.

The integration and cross-pollination between different entities will be developed and put into practice. In fact, the following individuals will be able to participate in all three workshops:

  • LUISS students
  • Girls from “Casa della Mamma”
  • Temple University students

This means that the groups participating in the various workshops can be mixed, with students from all three institutions.

All of this is to further enrich their educational experience and, consequently, their employability.

For the current academic year, you can choose between:

  • Tailoring - in collaboration with Casa della Mamma: the course will be held in the workshop at the association’s headquarters. Throughout the course, students will learn the fundamental techniques needed to create tailored garments that not only reflect their own creative ideas but also align with a tailored line, which can be agreed upon with the instructor.
  • Printmaking - in collaboration with Temple University: The course will take place in the workshop spaces at the Temple University Rome campus. During this course, students will learn ancient hand-printing techniques by creating and carving creative printing plates.
  • Graphics - in collaboration with Bugs Comics: the course will take place at the LUISS campus. Students will delve into the essential elements and techniques (such as color, drawing, layout, and typefaces) needed to create a graphic product. The course will include a hands-on portion where students can manually create their projects using materials and tools, followed by a digital portion for creating projects on a PC. For this course, it will be helpful to bring your own PC to class.

The courses are completely free and will be held once or twice a week, as scheduled.

For the Tailoring and Printmaking courses, students will be hosted in the workspaces of Casa della Mamma and Temple University Rome, respectively. Both locations are close to the LUISS Campus and easily accessible. The Graphic Design course will be held at one of the LUISS campuses.

The pieces created at the end of the courses will be the exclusive property of the students. Therefore, the costs of consumable materials will be borne by the students (although these costs will be modest and agreed upon with the instructors).

Classes will take place in the second semester of the 2018–2019 academic year and will consist of:

  • 48 hours of workshop time (for the Tailoring and Graphics course)
  • 30 hours of workshop time (for the Printmaking course)
