IELTS
Luiss promotes and organizes IELTS Academic exam sessions in collaboration with International House – Accademia Britannica Roma, an IELTS center accredited by IDP Education Australia.
Typically, three test sessions are held each year, with corresponding preparation courses, taking place in April, July, and November, respectively.
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is one of the most popular tests internationally for certifying English language proficiency. As a result , it is accepted and recognized by universities, higher education institutions, governments, immigration offices, companies, and employment agencies worldwide.
The test assesses the four core language skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
The test will be administered via computer at the International House location at Viale Manzoni, 22 in Rome. Candidates will be scheduled across multiple days, and it will not be possible to express a preference for a specific day. Each candidate will complete both the written tests and the oral interview on a single day.
Here is the schedule for the July 2026 session:
- Monday, July 6
- Tuesday, July 7
- Wednesday, July 8
- Thursday, July 9

Who can register for the IELTS test
Registration requirement
All Luiss students, whether on track or not, who are duly enrolled in a Bachelor's, Master's, or single-cycle Master's program for the current academic year at the time of application.
However, students from other universities who are enrolled in master’s degree programs and who, at the time of application, have yet to obtain a bachelor’s degree from their home university and complete their enrollment at Luiss, are not eligible to apply.
Language requirement
Only students who have achieved a final or intermediate level of language proficiency equal to or higher than B2.4 at Luiss will be eligible to register for the IELTS Academic test. Please note that the language requirement for which the candidate has an active course of study will be taken into consideration. Furthermore, if the language course has been completed, only the final level will be considered. For this reason, students who have not met the English language proficiency requirement will not be able to compete with any previously recorded intermediate levels.
The language requirement is crucial, as the goal is to achieve an IELTS score of at least 6.5–7.
Students enrolled in a degree program or course taught in English will automatically be considered to meet the B2.4 language requirement. This presumption does not apply in cases where:
- a language level has been achieved for that same program
- for degree programs that require the attainment of a Luiss language level (intermediate or final) in time to submit the IELTS test application
Furthermore, the level achieved during the admissions test or any external certifications will not be considered.
Ad hoc test
Students who do not have a Luiss English language level must take a placement test to demonstrate a language proficiency level of B2.4 or higher.
Students who have already taken the final English language exam at Luiss in sessions prior to the summer session of the 2025/2026 academic year (May–June 2026) and have not achieved a level sufficient to meet the requirement specified in the call for applications may also take the test .
However, students enrolled in degree programs that require them to obtain a Luiss language level (intermediate or final) in time to submit their IELTS test application will not be eligible to take the test.
The test (written and oral) must be taken between Tuesday, June 9 and no later than 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, according to procedures that will be communicated directly to the candidates concerned.
The test result serves only to verify the language proficiency required to take the IELTS exam. Therefore, no certificate attesting to the English language level determined during the test will be issued afterward.
