Volunteering abroad
In addition to the well-established Year-Round Volunteering and Summer Volunteering projects, Luiss Guido Carli has decided to further expand these opportunities. All students enrolled on a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Single-Cycle Master’s degree programme will now have the chance to undertake volunteer activities abroad.
The student will travel independently, liaising directly with the association representatives, who will be able to provide all the necessary information and support. These are highly challenging opportunities that demand a good level of self-organisation, but they guarantee an unforgettable experience.
As with all volunteering projects, you can also take part without requesting credit recognition.
General Rules
- Participation in the projects is subject to a selection process that will be managed entirely by the associations.
- The associations will also handle project organisation and the participant registration process. Luiss will only handle the process of acquiring the university credits.
- For each of the proposed activities, the University Credits (CFU) specified in the study plan under “Other Activities” will be recognised. Therefore, when completing the study plan, you must select Code SJ1 to obtain credits for this type of activity. However, you can still join even if you don't request credit recognition.
For the University Credits (CFU) to be recognised, you must have participated in all activities of the chosen initiative for the entire period, adhering to the stipulated number of hours. Additionally, a representative from the non-profit organisation must issue a certificate on the organisation’s letterhead confirming your actual participation in the activity, the tasks performed, and the number of hours. - Participants will be responsible for the costs, as indicated.

AIESEC is a UN-recognised, non-profit youth organisation that, since 1948, has been dedicated to developing leadership in young people with the aim of maintaining peace and realising human potential. The organisation operates in over 100 countries worldwide, providing more than 30,000 experiences each year to young people aged between 18 and 30.
As part of its activities, AIESEC offers young people opportunities to volunteer abroad, with the aim of fostering personal and regional development. The projects, which are part of the Global Volunteer Programme, are linked to specific United Nations Sustainable Development Goals; their aim is to contribute to the implementation of the SDGs around the world. The activities offered by each project therefore vary according to the SDG it’s linked to, and participants can apply for the one that best suits their preferences.

Amani is a non-profit organisation dedicated to upholding the rights of children and young people living on the streets to an identity, a safe home, food, education, healthcare, and the care of adults. Since 1995, Amani has been establishing and supporting shelters, as well as educational, school, and vocational centres in Kenya, Zambia, and Sudan.
Every day, Amani provides tangible opportunities and alternatives to people who would otherwise be forced to live on the streets in the slums and suburbs of Nairobi and Lusaka. Amani is independent, secular, and non-political.
In 2000, it was recognised as a non-governmental organisation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and since 2016, it has been listed on the Register of Civil Society Organisations maintained by AICS, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. It is based in Milan and has local groups active in numerous Italian cities, where it collaborates with schools, associations, public and private bodies, parishes, local authorities, foundations, and businesses. In Italy, Amani offers cultural initiatives as well as informative and educational events. Since 1995, it has been organising annual Encounter Camps in Kenya and Zambia, aimed at groups of young volunteers who want to get involved and experience a period of direct engagement with local communities.
IBO Italia is a Christian-inspired non-governmental organisation (NGO) and non-profit organisation (Onlus) dedicated to international cooperation and volunteering in Italy and around the world.
Also known as the Associazione Italiana Soci Costruttori, it is part of a network whose activities began in 1953 with the first work camps for rebuilding homes for refugees from the Second World War. IBO is the Flemish acronym for Internationale Bouworde, which translates to “International Building Partners”.
IBO Italia offers people aged 18 and over the chance to take part in Volunteer Camps: experiences of solidarity in Italy, Europe, and around the world, working with communities or associations involved in social activities and projects.
Isla ng Bata is an association dedicated to protecting the rights of children and adolescents through two main projects.
The first is a day centre in India, where children from backgrounds of extreme poverty and social hardship are provided with care and schooling.
The second is a family home in the Philippines, where girls who have been abandoned, subjected to violence, or abused receive shelter, care, and affection. They are guided through tailored growth and support pathways, receiving ongoing assistance and help in shaping their futures.
The association also promotes national and international volunteering and runs awareness-raising projects, working with schools, universities, companies, institutions, and local organisations.
MAIS Onlus is a secular voluntary association founded in 1987. It focuses on Distance Support aimed at education as the primary tool for a people’s self-development.
Through international volunteer missions, MAIS offers young people a unique opportunity for personal and professional growth. Volunteers work in a calm environment and in safe settings, and at weekends there are excursions and visits to learn about the host country's customs, traditions, and natural beauty. The work camps typically take place in eSwatini and are open to a maximum of 11 volunteers, who are always accompanied by an Italian tutor.
The camps last two weeks and usually take place at the beginning of August. The volunteers' activities are designed to support the work of the permanent staff. In particular, the young people will be involved in managing daily activities and carrying out minor maintenance tasks (painting, plastering, etc.). At the school, volunteers will take part in educational and/or recreational activities with the children.
In the Family Home, volunteers will primarily look after the children during their daily activities, suggest and organise games, and help them with their studies.
You don’t need any specific qualifications or training to take part in our humanitarian missions, although a knowledge of English is highly valued. Energy, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude are the most important ingredients.

Rishilpi International carries out development projects with the participation of local communities, delivering a positive impact on the beneficiaries involved. Its aim is to ensure the fundamental rights of every human being in developing countries, primarily in Bangladesh. The organisation runs information campaigns on hygiene and maternal and child health, advocacy campaigns, and projects focusing on education and the management of drinking water.
Rishilpi offers people aged 18 and over the opportunity to travel to Bangladesh for a minimum of 15 days and a maximum of 60 days, between July and October or between February and April. Volunteers contribute according to their skills and interests in any of Rishilpi's departments. Volunteers spend around 5 hours a day supporting the permanent staff in managing activities.
At the school and nursery, volunteers will take part in educational and/or play activities involving the children. At the health centre, volunteers will primarily focus on supporting the young beneficiaries with their daily activities, suggesting and organising games and group time, and helping them with learning English and other activities.
