Withdrawal from studies and forfeiture

Withdrawal from studies and forfeiture

Withdrawal from studies

You can withdraw from university studies in writing without mentioning any conditions, terms, or clauses that limit the withdrawal's effectiveness. The withdrawal will be irrevocable for the student, meaning they won't be able to later reactivate a university career that has already been terminated as a result of the withdrawal.

Students who withdraw are not entitled to a refund of the regional fee or the single contribution already paid.

Once the University accepts the withdrawal, you can have your high school diploma returned if you submitted it to the Student Affairs Office when you enrolled.

You can submit your request to withdraw from your studies by emailing the application form (without a revenue stamp) and a copy of your valid ID to segreteria@luiss.it. Once the duly completed request is received, the stamp duty amount due from the applicant (a €16 revenue stamp) will be issued. This can be paid online by credit card in the personal Web Self Service area. Once payment is verified, the student's withdrawal from studies can be finalized, concluding their university career.

Documents to submit:

  • Application to withdraw from studies
  • University transcript and ID badge (if collected)

Forfeiture

Discontinuation from university studies applies to individuals who, despite being enrolled as a student exceeding the standard period of study, do not take exams for ten consecutive academic years (Article 149 of Royal Decree No. 1592 of 1933, as amended by Decree-Law 202/2024 and converted into Law 15/2025).

The disqualification does not apply to those who have passed all course exams and only need to complete their university studies with the final degree exam. Therefore, anyone wishing to resume their studies after being subject to forfeiture will need to re-enroll in university courses and retake exams they have already passed.
