Rules for sports institutions and clubs: theory and practice
Course in Sports Law and Management
The course offers a learning path that begins with a theoretical analysis of the regulatory and institutional context of sport, and then moves on to practical cases relevant to sports management.
The lessons will feature a mix of:
- Lectures led by professors Guglielmo Stendardo and Francesco Di Ciommo;
- First-hand accounts from athletes, coaches, federal officials, and representatives of major sports organizations. Students will have the opportunity to engage with them, ask questions, and participate in a critical analysis of the current state of the sports system.

- The legal, economic, and social significance of sports within our legal system
- The relationship between sports regulations and state regulations, both in Italy and internationally
- Management and organizational skills for sports clubs
- The evolution of sports regulations: from Law 91/1981 to the Bosman ruling, to women's professionalism and post-career training
- Sports commercial law: revenue sources, stadium ownership, and capital gains (with a focus on the Juventus case)
- Rights and obligations of athletes and clubs
- The organizational structure of CONI and the federations
- The role of the sports agent under the new regulations
- Sports justice and the labor law aspects of the “sports worker”
- Tax and criminal aspects of sports activities
- Sponsorships: the national regulatory framework, UEFA, and notable cases (e.g., Manchester City)
- The Super League and European competition law: the roles of UEFA and FIFA (the Juventus case)
- Innovation and artificial intelligence in sports: opportunities and risks
- Technology in soccer: VAR and SOAT
Learning objectives
Students will gain knowledge in the legal, economic, and managerial aspects of sports activities. The course aims to train professionals with a comprehensive, pragmatic, and managerial understanding of the field, enabling them to successfully apply for positions in the sports industry.
The lessons will be taught with a balanced approach, combining both theory and practice. The testimonies of key figures from the world of sports will be particularly important. They will speak in the classroom, and students will have the opportunity to ask them questions to critically analyze the current state of the sports system.

General rules
- The course lasts a total of 30 hours, and students will also be required to work on assigned projects. To earn the University Credits, students must attend 80% of the total hours, which amounts to 24 hours (thus, a maximum of 6 hours of absence is allowed), and the instructor must deem them eligible for the final assessment.
- A tutor will be responsible for recording attendance, which will be done by signing a register. Failure to sign in and/or out will be considered an absence. There will be no exceptions to the sole criterion for awarding university credits: attendance.
- Absence hours will be calculated based on the attendance records. Depending on the schedule or personal needs, students can take these hours all in one day or spread them out across multiple lessons.
- Once a student has chosen their course, they will not be able to earn University Credits through any other means.
- Students who have already earned the required University Credits for Other Activities as part of their curriculum, or who have already started attending optional language courses or other activities that grant University Credits, are not eligible.

- The course will take place in the first semester;
- The course will be taught in Italian;
- All activities will take place on Fridays from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Registration
Students enrolled in the second year of the Bachelor's Degree programs in Economics and Management, Management and Artificial Intelligence, Business Administration, Economics and Business, Political Science, or Global Law and Politics: Philosophy and Economics, as well as those in the third year of the Single-Cycle Master's Degree program in Law, can select the Soft Skills course they wish to take to earn credits directly through the Web Self Service while completing their study plan.
