Support for incarcerated students

The project will not be reactivated for the 2020-21 academic year.

The volunteer work is part of the University's initiative to support university studies for inmates. This, in turn, is part of a broader project aimed at promoting a different approach to punishment. Luiss students can volunteer as tutors directly within the prison facilities.

Luiss students will be able to provide tangible support to university students held in the Rebibbia prison, offering help in particular with studying typically more challenging subjects, breaking down all barriers—not just the physical ones.

The proposed initiative is an original tutoring program where senior students provide support to incarcerated students. Under a specific agreement with the Rebibbia Nuovo Complesso Institute, senior students will visit the prison weekly to offer their help to inmates enrolled in degree programs in Law, Political Science, and Economics.

Activities:

Educational support provided to fellow inmates who are part of the Rebibbia N.C. university group for the following subjects (related to the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic year):

  • private law
  • public law
  • international law
  • constitutional law
  • political economy
  • philosophy of law
  • labor law
  • Roman law

Volunteer work will take place at the Rebibbia N.C. prison.

Volunteers will be engaged from February to May, ensuring participation in two 4-hour sessions per week, for a total of 80 hours.

Selected students can arrange their volunteer slots directly with the inmates, while still ensuring they meet the total commitment of 80 hours.

There will be a selection phase to assess candidates' skills in the specified subjects and their aptitude for this activity. The evaluation process will take place at the Luiss campus at Viale Romania 32, in the presence of a representative from the Rebibbia Institute, on February 5, 2020, at 3:00 PM in room 410.
