Susan G. Komen

Susan G. Komen Italia is a volunteer-based organization at the forefront of the fight against breast cancer across the country.
It was founded in Rome in 2000 as the first European affiliate of Susan G. Komen in Dallas.
The Association’s mission is to promote prevention, support women facing the disease, improve the quality of care, and strengthen clinical facilities.

Today, Komen Italia is active in four Italian regions (Lazio, Puglia, Emilia Romagna, and Lombardy) and collaborates with a vast network of “friend” associations in over 100 cities across Italy. A network of 3,000 volunteers and numerous spokespersons support the organization with commitment and passion, including Maria Grazia Cucinotta and Rosanna Banfi, who are the sponsors of the Race for the Cure and Donne in Rosa.

Activities

Volunteers who participate in year-round volunteer activities with the Association can choose from different areas. Based on their preferences and the Partner’s organizational needs, they will be assigned to either a single area of activity or to multiple areas on a rotating basis:

  • Supporting the activities of the three mobile units of the Prevention Caravan, which will offer free clinical examinations to disadvantaged individuals or those in need, in settings such as prisons, reception centers, and disadvantaged neighborhoods;
  • Participation and support in putting on public events organized by the Association, with tasks varying according to the partner’s needs;
  • Participation in awareness-raising activities and patient reception at the Komen corner, which operates daily at the Integrated Breast Center of the A. Gemelli Polyclinic;
  • Support for the Komen offices, both with data entry and processing and with practical and logistical needs related to managing the premises (organizing warehouses, handling materials, and maintaining the spaces).

The type and manner of activities will be agreed upon with the partner, taking into account the needs and availability of the Association and the volunteers. To earn the credits, you must have participated in the activities for every week of both the first semester (starting in mid-October) and the second semester, with a maximum of four missed sessions allowed.

There is a maximum of 5 students.
