Transparencies - Plastic

LUISS Guido Carli is hosting a contemporary art duo show by Emanuele Barbagallo and Juan Eugenio Ochoa:

Transparencies, four forms of the invisible - Plastic

February 17 – March 17, 2016

Opening on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at 7:30 PM – Aula 200 Chiesa, Viale Romania 32.

Trasparenze - Plastica

On Wednesday, February 17, the Plastica exhibition will open at the LUISS Guido Carli University’s Viale Romania campus in Rome. This is the fourth and final installment in the series “Trasparenze, quattro forme dell'invisibile,” sponsored by LUISS Cultural Activities.

The exhibition, curated by the members of the Anonima Curatori group, will feature two young artists under 35: Emanuele Barbagallo and Juan Eugenio Ochoa.

The fourth chapter of the Trasparenze series explores plastic, transforming it from a material element into a philosophical subject. Plastic is reinvented and reimagined through countless interpretations, transforming it from an artificial, purely industrial material into the very substance through which ideas take shape.

The artists

Juan Eugenio Ochoa
The work of Juan Eugenio Ochoa, an artist born in Colombia and based in Milan, focuses on disrupting the consequentiality of academic painting: Ochoa's brushstrokes do not illuminate the different areas of the painting but rather conceal them. The faces portrayed in his works are defined by layers of filters, applied like sheets of colored plastic, through which light filters, enhanced by a thousand shades of color.

Emanuele Barbagallo
The subject of Emanuele Barbagallo’s painting is modernity, and his brush is asphalt. Focusing on this material, the perfect paradigm of contemporary civilization, Barbagallo paints neo-bucolic views of what is now the new natural horizon. The human figure in this environment appears almost ghostly, at times superfluous, and is concentrated on layers that the artist superimposes using transparent Plexiglas sheets as a canvas.

Open to the public on February 20–21, February 28, and March 13, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Reservations can be made Monday through Friday by calling 06/85225655 or emailing attivitaculturali@luiss.it.
