The Protettorato San Giuseppe, established over a century ago as a refuge for the poorest, especially children, is one of the oldest non-profit organizations in Rome dedicated to supporting children and adolescents.
Since 2003, it has been a private foundation, and its main activities include providing assistance, conducting studies and research, and testing innovative intervention models to benefit children and families.
The Foundation operates four group homes for children aged 3 to 18, a group home for mothers with children, and an accredited micro-nursery with an agreement with the City of Rome, open to local families.
Through its Research Center, the Foundation manages experimental and research projects, proposing and developing initiatives for training, professional development, and dissemination.
While considering new services for the young people living in the group homes, and after gathering ideas and projects from the staff (educators, psychologists, etc.), it became clear that decisions within the facility are often made without thoroughly considering the most important perspective: that of the young people themselves.
The volunteers’ task will be to help conduct a survey among the residents of the group homes to uncover their perceptions of the place where they live, whether or not they feel part of a community, what they miss the most, the reasons for their well-being (or discomfort), and more.
