LUISS Guido Carli is hosting a two-person contemporary art show dedicated to Giulio Cassanelli and Bruno Cerasi

Transparencies, four forms of the invisible - Air

March 12 – April 30, 2015

Opening on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at 7:00 PM – Aula 200 Chiesa, Viale Romania 32.

Trasparenze: Aria

The series “Trasparenze, quattro forme dell'invisibile” kicks off with the first two-person exhibition, which focuses on the element of air. For this first event, the Anonima Curatori group will display the works of Giulio Cassanelli and the site-specific installation by Bruno Cerasi within the Aula 200 Chiesa.

The series is curated by the Anonima Curatori group, made up of LUISS students who are participating in the Art Under 35 project. This initiative is supported by the Cultural Activities department in collaboration with the Master of Art program at the LUISS Creative Business Center. Under the guidance of scientific coordinator Alfredo Rapetti Mogol and tutor Carlo Maria Lolli Ghetti, the group is tackling all the challenges of curating a series of contemporary art exhibitions. They have defined the scientific theme, selected the artists—all strictly under 35—drafted the critical texts, and conceived and created the installation within the evocative setting of Aula 200 Chiesa.

The curatorial group's experiment stems from the realization that art is a universal language of communication, capable of speaking to any viewer without distinction. Working on creating a series of exhibitions has given students the opportunity to develop some of LUISS's core values, managerial skills, and a problem-solving approach. They faced the challenge of effectively conveying and presenting the artistic languages of eight young international artists.

The exhibition “Aria” kicks off the “Trasparenze” series, which will explore four materials known for their permeability to light—air, glass, water, and plastic—separately every two months through the work of four pairs of young international artists. The series centers on analyzing a physical characteristic unique to specific materials: their ability to let light pass through and not obstruct visual messages. A transparent body acts as a filter for communication channels, allowing some to pass through while blocking others: air offers maximum freedom, glass blocks sound, water eliminates smell, and plastic nullifies touch; all of them define a physical space.

The artists

Giulio Cassanelli

Giulio Cassanelli's work is a lengthy study of the human instinct to bring order to nature. His painting sessions, where he tries to tame soap bubbles by coloring them in mid-air and capturing them as they float, are a clear encapsulation of humanity's attempt to give shape to chance. Bubbles become brushes, and soaps turn into acrylics, resulting in a form of painting that borders on performance art, where the artist collaborates with chaos to create works signed by both parties.

Bruno Cerasi

Bruno Cerasi was born in Bologna and trained as an artist at the Academy of Fine Arts in L'Aquila. His exploration soon turned to studying the invisible connections that bind relationships between people. Using the very air as his canvas, Cerasi creates sculptures—mostly site-specific—where thick black lines trace invisible planes, revealing the web of underlying connections that govern our lives.
