Re(e)sistance The
action of the new, the reaction of the place

February 15, 2018 – March 23, 2018
Opening on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at 7:00 PM – Room 200, Viale Romania 32

On Thursday, February 15, in Room 200 at LUISS Guido Carli on Viale Romania 32, the contemporary art exhibition series Re(e)sistenza azione del nuovo, reazione del luogo will open. Sponsored by LUISS Cultural Activities, the series explores the nature of places, their history, and how their function shapes their identity.

Curated by LUISS students participating in the third edition of the Art under 35 workshop and coordinated by gallery owner Carlo Maria Lolli Ghetti, the series features two exhibition itineraries. The spaces selected for the exhibitions are locations within the university that have a strong morphological and symbolic significance: Aula 200 at the LUISS campus on Viale Romania and the LUISS campus on Via Parenzo. These spaces have undergone a change in their original purpose and now lead a second life, all while retaining their historical identity.

The works by the participating artists, Leonardo Aquilino and Sacha Turchi, are site-specific installations. They stem from in-depth historical research into the origins of Aula 200 in Viale Romania. Through their personal sculptural languages, the artists have highlighted particular aspects related to the action of the new and the reaction of the place, artistically representing the history of Aula 200, the former private church of the Convent of the Sisters of the Assumption.

The artists

Leonardo Aquilino
His primary research tool is photography, which serves as a means of testimony and, more importantly, as a form of expression. The image is reshaped, deformed, transfigured, and juxtaposed with artificial membranes to create site-specific installations. With meticulous shooting and a clean composition, the artist distorts the subject, creating a new scene that is decontextualized from the original image.

Sacha Turchi
Sacha Turchi’s artistic work centers on the anatomy of the human body in relation to anthropological aspects and is conducted in parallel with her material research. The material used for the works comes from basic natural elements and plant substances. The installation becomes an environment where viewers can explore new perspectives on their own experiences.

On the opening day, registration is required for the general public.

The exhibition is open to the public through March 23, 2018. Reservations can be made Monday through Friday:
