Shock Therapies – Volumes
June 27, 2016 – June 27, 2017
Opening on Monday, June 27, 2016, at 7:00 PM – Borghetto, Viale Romania 32
On Monday, June 27, the series of contemporary art exhibitions “Terapie d’urto” (Shock Therapies), sponsored by LUISS Cultural Activities, kicks off with its first event entirely dedicated to urban art, encompassing both sculpture and street art.
The exhibition Volumi is a metaphor for a physical, tangible therapy, one made up of head-on encounters between the artworks and the viewers. The volume takes on a dual aspect: the space occupied by a physical body and the intensity of the sound created by the symbolic collision between an animate and an inanimate body.
The works by the participating artists—Cristiano Carotti, Bruno Cerasi, JAGO, Jerico, ROBOCOOP, and Pietro Zucca—will be provocatively scattered like veritable art capsules throughout the Viale Romania campus, a space that is unusual for them.
Curated by LUISS students participating in the second edition of the Art under 35 Art Laboratory, and coordinated by gallery owner Carlo Maria Lolli Ghetti, the series delves into one of art’s primary functions: serving as a miraculous remedy against the absence of doubt.
This therapy can often serve as both a diagnosis and a cure, guiding the viewer toward resolving a problem without claiming to be the only or infallible solution.
The artists
Cristiano Carotti
A versatile artist who navigates a wide range of artistic languages, he exhibits a sculpture originally conceived to accompany the Afterhours band’s tour of the same name.
Bruno Cerasi
A multifaceted artist known for his meticulous attention to installation and a consistently clean, sharp style. His two site-specific installations continue an exploration of the phenomenon of immigration that began in 2015.
JAGO
A sculptor renowned for his absolute mastery of marble, he ventures into a different material to create two site-specific pieces that aim to engage viewers in the works’ evolution.
Jerico
A Filipino-born street artist who is active on the Rome scene. His work, which is highly painterly and clearly expressionist in style, will cover the wall of a sports field and celebrate a masterpiece of Christian iconography.
ROBOCOOP
A duo of artists from Rome and Bologna. They occupy a wall facing one of the university’s most vibrant areas, exploring the boundary between the worlds of art and architecture.
Pietro Zucca
A young sculptor specializing in the use of iron and in research focused on the analysis of pure form, is exhibiting two sculptures: one suspended, made of pure forms that float in space, and the other conceived specifically for the Volumi exhibition and created from discarded objects from university life.
External visitors must register.
The exhibition is open to the public through June 27, 2017. Reservations can be made Monday through Friday:
