Collaboration Agreement on AI-COMP – Artificial Intelligence and Competition – Call for Applications
The call for a collaboration contract on the European project AI-COMP – Artificial Intelligence and Competition – is now online. Interested candidates must submit their applications by Thursday, March 26, at 3:00 PM (CET, UTC+1).
The AI-COMP project examines the increasing use of artificial intelligence algorithms in markets. It is widely acknowledged that they create significant value by facilitating economic interactions. However, there are also concerns that, once applied to market settings, these algorithms could reduce competition and harm consumers. This proposal marks a significant first step in a comprehensive research program focused on artificial intelligence and competition. The proposal is structured into three comprehensive projects, focusing on two key classes of AI algorithms. The first class, price-setting algorithms, includes tools used by online retailers to set retail prices. The second class, recommender systems (RS), includes widely used online algorithms that suggest products and content to consumers based on their current and past behavior. The proposed research project aims to assess whether RSs are pro-competitive or anti-competitive by analyzing how companies respond endogenously to RSs in terms of pricing, product design, and market entry and exit decisions.
The assignment involves providing management, organizational, and administrative support necessary for the proper implementation of the ERC AI-COMP – Artificial Intelligence and Competition project. It begins on the first day of the month following contract award, subject to administrative procedure timelines, and runs until December 31, 2026.
The call for proposals and the application form are available here.
