Enhancing Research

Enhancing Research

Luiss has always been known for its close ties to the business world, which is reflected in a constant exchange of experiences both nationally and internationally. This exchange is facilitated by the fact that, as a university specializing in the social sciences, Luiss produces rigorous yet directly applicable research. This means there’s no need for the intellectual property protection and exploitation activities typically handled by Technology Transfer Offices.

Third-party activities

Luiss is constantly strengthening and innovating the conditions and mechanisms to ensure that the results of its applied research and consulting activities are widely disseminated and effectively used, both in educational programs and in enhancing its impact on the country’s economic, entrepreneurial, and social ecosystem. It also supports the development of relational capital that fosters the co-production of knowledge and engages both internal and external stakeholders.

In particular, the Luiss  Research Centers specialize in commissioned engaged research, leveraging their strong connections with the productive and institutional sectors, both nationally and internationally. The Centers include Observatories and Laboratories dedicated to exploring specific topics in depth, some of which have been established in collaboration with companies or other external partners.

Intermediary structures

Luiss leverages the results of its research through a series of structures dedicated to local engagement:

Consortia and associations with Third Mission objectives

The Luiss Alumni Association (ALL), a dedicated networking platform, was established in 1986. For over thirty years, it has served as the university’s preferred, enduring, and defining hub for alumni. Luiss is also a founding partner of the collaborative network Start Cup Lazio and is part of numerous inter-university consortia with Third Mission objectives, such as the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), the Blue Italian Growth Cluster (CTN-BIG), ENGAGE.EU, the International Universities Climate Alliance, and the EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Consortium.

Placement Offices

Luiss is known for its close ties to the world of work. Over 500 companies, public and private institutions, and multinational corporations collaborate with the University to provide graduating students and recent graduates with their first real opportunities to enter the workforce. The Career Service, a placement service closely linked to the Alumni Office, was launched in 1997. Today, the organizational integration of the two entities maximizes the value of the network and the global reach of Luiss’s geographic presence, including for placement purposes.

Incubators

In line with the world’s leading and most innovative universities and their alumni associations, the Luiss Alumni 4 Growth (LA4G) investment club has been active since 2019. It provides financial support to Luiss-related startups, leveraging its unique network of alumni who have achieved professional and entrepreneurial success.

The network of investors, corporations, and institutions is further strengthened by the activities of the startup accelerator Luiss EnLabs. Established in 2013 as a joint venture between LVenture Group and Luiss, it operates in Rome and Milan (at the Milano Luiss Hub).

Other intermediation structures

The Research and Third Mission Office facilitates connections between Research Centers and potential companies and institutions that award contracts. It also supports efforts to disseminate and promote high-quality research results.

The Partnership, Industrial Relations, and Financial Aid offices were established to support all collaborative activities with companies and to promote the sharing of Luiss values with the outside world.
