Obiettivi formativi

The main goal of this course is to provide a knowledge basis of the Corporate Finance and Financial Markets fields, together with a broad introduction to the role of Fintech companies. The course develops a deeper understanding of the tools that are used to take investment and financing decisions, and on the functioning of the financial markets. The final goal is to be able to judge an organization and their strategy on their value creation capacities, and to understand how the securities are traded

The course will provide a solid knowledge of finance. In particular, the intended learning outcomes are reported below in greater detail. Knowledge and understanding: The course will cover the theoretical and methodological foundations of corporate finance, which allows to evaluate all financing and corporate decisions, and of financial markets and Fintech, by introducing the students to the market functioning and to the role of Fintech institutions. It will offer also practical tools to manage real financial problems. Applying knowledge and understanding: The student be able to quantify the value of a project / company taking financing decisions into account; compute expected changes in stock prices relating from these financing decisions, understand the functioning of the financial markets and of Fintech companies. A written test (final test) and some test simulations will serve in strengthening the student learning process. Making judgments: The student, using the methodologies acquired during the course, will acquire the ability to collect and interpret real financial data in order to deal with investment decision analysis and to judge company’s value creation process. The course will lead students to solve and real business cases both at the corporate level. Communication skills: At the end of the course the student will be able to use the business and technical vocabulary of the Finance sector addressing the decision issues at hand with terminological accuracy. Through the various activities that will take place during the course – lessons with discussion, case studies discussions, practical lessons – Students will develop the ability to communicate the financial analysis both in written form (texts and exercises) and in oral form. The communication skills will be oriented to the critical analysis of financial management problems within the company in several contexts, as well as to the ability to develop concrete solutions and communicate them both in team groups and to the class. The students will be requited to present a Finance topic to increase their communication skills. Learning skills: Students will acquire the knowledge and analysis tools that will allow them to deal with financial problems in a complex and dynamic context. Students will acquire the basic theoretical and practical knowledge to judge the functioning of a firm. These skills will allow him to continue to deepen the topics addressed independently and to undertake further studies foreseen in the Degree Program and the learning experiences in the workplace.

Metodologie Didattiche

Each week topics on finance are discussed, based on the course’s main literature. In addition, students, in groups, will analyze and discuss case studies relating to the topics studied in class. The case study analysis is part of a written group work. Practical classroom exercises will deepen the theoretic understanding of the course. The exercises will be available on the course website in advance. Students are invited to actively participate and contribute during classes.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento

Students are expected to review the required material before class and to participate in the class. Students are encouraged to ask questions during class and will be given the chance to answer questions. Details regarding the grading criteria for class participation will be provided during the classes. The assessment is divided in 2 types: attendant versus non attendant. Attendands: Final exam (80%); Project Work (20%); 1 Bonus point assignments. Attendance and participation to the group activities is compulsory unless specific exemptions The grades of the project work are only valid until the last exam in July. Non attendants will be evaluated 100% on the final exam. The complete final exam might consist of multichoice and open questions together. Two versions of the final exam will be assigned according to the student type (attending versus non-attending students) The exams in September/January can be done in oral form if participants are below the number of 4.
