LLM in Food Law
Second-Level Master's Degree
The LUISS School of Law has placed a special focus on the LLM in Food Law. It is one of its core programs, designed and structured to attract an international audience and offer a unique experience.
All courses and other activities are conducted in English. The primary legal references are to European Union and international rules and practices. Moreover, the studies extend beyond the legal field; where necessary, the program also provides the indispensable economic and technical concepts.
The LLM program's faculty includes widely renowned scholars, senior officials from regulatory bodies and institutions, and prominent agricultural, industrial, and commercial operators and experts.
The subject matter ranges from the institutional foundations of food legislation to the regulatory principles of safety, security, and environmental protection; from the instruments and bodies for monitoring quality and traceability to the proper protection of consumers; from the requirements for certifications of origin, including “made in(s),” to the legal aspects of distribution and agri-food contractual policies; from the rules of free competition to the responsibility of business operators throughout the production-distribution-consumption chain. Special attention is devoted to the regulation of technological innovation in the food sector, as well as to bio-agriculture technologies.
Lectures are complemented by workshops and practice-oriented seminars. There, experts who are actively working in various fields related to food regulation and the food industry share their real-world work experience with the students.
Special attention is given to creating tangible career opportunities upon obtaining the LLM certificate. Several opportunities for engagement with the world of food-related activities, organizations, and institutions are offered during the courses and related initiatives. Thereafter, there will be a wide range of internships and traineeships available in the various specific sectors that students may be interested in.
The Program consists of seven modules, as described:
- international trade law
- European and international food safety regulations
- food quality policies
