Luiss Welcome Lectures – The State and Religion in Pluralistic Societies
Like any university, Luiss thrives on its academic community, which fuels the production and dissemination of knowledge. This community is naturally open to the arrival of new members.
Luiss Welcome Lectures is a series of events where new members of the academic community are given the opportunity to present their potential future contributions and engage in stimulating academic debate with faculty, students, and guests.
In the sixth event of the series, Kristina Stoeckl (Sociology) and Aristide Police (Administrative Law) will discuss the intricate dynamics of regulating the relationship between the state and religion in pluralistic societies, emphasizing the myriad challenges that arise in navigating this intersection. As societies become increasingly diverse, the complexities surrounding the coexistence of religious pluralism and governmental authority become more pronounced. The two speakers examine the tensions and conflicts inherent in balancing religious freedom with the need for state regulation from both a sociological and a legal perspective. By exploring case studies from Italy, their presentations aim to deepen understanding of the multifaceted nature of state-religion dynamics, providing insights into the complexities of governance in pluralistic societies.
