Luiss Welcome Lectures - The State and Religion in Pluralistic Societies
Like any university, Luiss lives through its academic community, which feeds its knowledge production and dissemination. This community is physiologically exposed to the entry of new members.
Luiss Welcome Lectures is a series of events in which new members of the academic community are given the opportunity to present their potential future contributions and engage in stimulating academic debate with faculty, students and guests.
In the sixth appointment in the series, Kristina Stoeckl (Sociology) and Aristide Police (Administrative Law) will discuss the intricate dynamics of regulating the relationship between the state and religion in pluralistic societies, emphasizing the myriad challenges that emerge in navigating this intersection. As societies become increasingly diverse, the complexities surrounding the coexistence of religious pluralism and governmental authority become more pronounced. The two speakers examine the tensions and conflicts inherent in balancing religious freedom with the need for state regulation from the perspective of sociology and from the perspective of law. By exploring case studies from Italy, their presentations aim to deepen understanding of the multifaceted nature of state-religion dynamics, providing insights into the complexities of governance in pluralistic societies.
